The F-14D Super Tomcat is the most advanced production variant of the American carrier-based fighter developed by Grumman for the aviation branch of the United States Navy. The aircraft is equipped with the upgraded Hughes AN/APG-71 digital radar featuring increased detection range and improved target discrimination, as well as a combined IRST detection system integrating infrared and television channels. Altogether, these improvements significantly enhanced its capabilities in long-range interception, target tracking, and precision strike missions. The fixed forward armament consists of a 20 mm M61A1 Vulcan cannon. For engaging aerial targets, the F-14D can employ up to six AIM-54C Phoenix long-range air-to-air missiles, as well as AIM-7M Sparrow medium-range missiles and AIM-9M Sidewinder short-range missiles. For ground attack missions, the aircraft can carry GBU-31 JDAM guided bombs, GBU-10/12/16 Paveway II laser-guided bombs, and EGBU-24B Paveway III bombs in conjunction with the LANTIRN targeting pod. Additional available ordnance includes Mk 82, Mk 83, and Mk 84 unguided bombs, Zuni Mk32 unguided rockets, and external fuel tanks to extend operational range. Countermeasure systems include chaff/flare dispensers as well as additional BOL countermeasure pods, providing a total payload of 640 countermeasures. The main armament consists of two quadruple 380mm/45 turrets. The secondary armament consists exclusively of dual-purpose guns: nine 152mm/55 guns in three triple mounts and twenty-four 100mm guns in twelve twin mounts. An air defense system of twenty-eight 57mm autocannons in fourteen twin mounts provides excellent protection against air threats.
