Description
You are the Lantern Man. Every Halloween the town of Hollow Creek hides from you — and every year they get better at it. THEY HIDE AS THE THINGS THEY OWN The people you are hunting do not crouch behind furniture. They become it. A second pumpkin on the porch. A chair that was not at the table a moment ago. A jar on the top shelf that is a little too large. Every disguise is a copy of something that already exists in the room, and every copy has a flaw: it leans, it breathes, it grew. Find the flaw, or find nothing. EIGHT NIGHTS, EIGHT PLACES Start in a living room with four people hiding and work your way to the cellar where twelve are waiting. A kitchen still warm from dinner. A dusty attic under a low roof. A backyard full of grinning pumpkins. Hollow Creek Cemetery, a stone crypt, a whole street of locked houses with the porch lights on. Each place unlocks the next. Each one hides its people a little better than the last. YOUR HEART KNOWS Get close to someone in disguise and your heartbeat rises. Too far and it fades. In the early nights the disguises wobble and tilt for anyone with a lantern to see; by the end you will be walking through the dark listening for a pulse. THREE MISTAKES Strike a disguise and one of them is found. Strike an ordinary object and you lose a heart. Lose three and dawn comes without you. The clock runs the whole time — four to five minutes of night per place — so hesitation costs as much as a wrong guess. BUILT FOR THE COUCH Full Xbox controller support with a 10-foot interface, plus keyboard and mouse on PC. Every menu, prompt and option works with either. Adjustable render scale from crunchy 240-line PSX up to native, field of view, look sensitivity, inverted Y and separate volume sliders. A PLAYSTATION-ERA NIGHTMARE Low-resolution rendering, ordered dithering, vertex wobble, film grain and fog: the look of 1997 survival horror on modern hardware. Every sound in the game — the drone of the house, the wind, the creaks, the screams, your own heartbeat — is synthesised live. There is no music track to learn and no sample to get used to.
