Description

The forges went out a long time ago. Something still keeps them warm. Emberwake is a top-down melee action game about reading a room, committing to a swing, and rolling out of the answer. Every weapon you own came off the floor of a hall you cleared. WEAPONS YOU FIND, NOT WEAPONS YOU BUY Five families - blade, twin knives, broad axe, stone hammer, impact gauntlets - each with its own combo length, reach and weight. You carry one. Picking up a new one drops the old one where you stand, so a swap in the middle of a fight is a real decision, not a menu. A DODGE THAT MEANS SOMETHING The roll covers four units in a third of a second, with invulnerable frames from 50 to 230 milliseconds. Time it against the opening of an attack and you take nothing; time it early and you eat the whole thing. Dodging through a hit at the right moment refunds energy for a heavy attack. FIGHTS YOU CAN READ No more than three melee enemies commit at once, and nothing off screen ever opens an attack on you. Every wind-up is long enough to react to - the shortest is 320 milliseconds - and each one changes the enemy's shape, not just its colour. SIX LEVELS, FORTY ROOMS A tutorial, four halls and a boss level, hand-tuned and identical every run. Weapon rooms, recovery hollows, elite posts and a two-phase Cinder Warden at the end. BUILT FOR A CONTROLLER AND A TELEVISION Full gamepad support with a 10-foot layout on Xbox: nothing under 20 pixels, nothing outside the safe area, every menu reachable without a mouse. Screen shake and flash intensity can be turned all the way down. No network, no accounts, no purchases. It is a game about hitting things carefully.
