Xbox 360 Media Remote

Xbox 360 Media Remote

Initial shipments of the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system come with a promotional item, the Xbox 360 Media Remote. The media remote lets you control DVD and CD playback, Microsoft Windows Media Center, and the Xbox Dashboard.

To further simplify system control, consider using the Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote, which you can use with your TV in addition to DVD and CD playback, Windows Media Center, and the Xbox Dashboard.

Set Up Your Remote

To prepare the remote, first insert the batteries.

Insert Batteries

The remote uses two AA (LR6) batteries (supplied).

To insert batteries into the Xbox 360™ Media Remote:

  1. Remove the remote battery cover.
  2. Insert two new AA (LR6) batteries as shown on the underside of the remote battery cover. For best performance, AA rechargeable batteries are not recommended.
  3. Replace the remote battery cover.

Using Your Remote

The Media Remote works only with the Xbox 360 console and a connected Microsoft Windows Media Center–based PC. It does not control TVs, VCRs, stand-alone DVRs and DVD players, or audio equipment.

The remote offers convenient backlit buttons that dim when not in use, a 30-foot range, and a 90-degree operational radius (plus/minus 45 degrees).

Controller Buttons

The Xbox Guide button on your remote puts the Xbox 360 experience at your fingertips. Use this button to turn your console on and off, and use the Xbox Guide button along with the A, B, X, Y, and OK buttons to navigate and control the Xbox Guide and the Xbox Dashboard, just as you'd use your controller.

The remote's Open/Close button will open and close the console's disc tray. The On/Off button will turn either your console or your TV on or off, depending on whether the remote is in TV mode or controller mode (press the TV button to switch between them).

A dedicated Back button simplifies Xbox Dashboard navigation.

Windows Media Center Start Button

The Windows Media Center Start button lets you access a connected Windows Media Center–based PC through your Xbox 360 console. If you are set up to use Windows Media Center on your Xbox 360 console, pressing the button will start Windows Media Center. If you are not set up to use Windows Media Center on your console, pressing the button will start the Windows Media Center setup wizard.

  • Live TV (B): When watching a recorded segment of a program in progress, returns you to watching live TV.
  • CH/PG (X down, A up): Lets you change TV channel or page up and down through a menu.
  • REC: Starts or stops recording a TV program.

Buttons specific to DVD and CD playback consist of:

  • Display: Calls up an on-screen menu for selecting subtitles, audio options, picture zoom, and A-B repeat (segment looping), as discs allow.
  • Title: Displays a DVD movie's title menu, typically the main on-screen menu, but it can be used to view specific titles, chapters, or supplemental material within a DVD (or to control subtitle, language, or other settings).
  • DVD Menu: Takes you to the main setup menu for your DVD movies.
  • Back: Most useful for navigating within the Xbox Dashboard, this button will also remove the on-screen display during a DVD movie.
  • Information (INFO): Displays title, chapter, and elapsed-time information in a transparent window in the top-right corner of the screen.
Watch Movies

The universal media remote lets you control DVD movie features and other media functions of your Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system.

To play DVD movies:

  1. Press Open/Close to open the disc tray.
  2. Place the DVD movie on the disc tray with the label facing out.
  3. Press Open/Close to close the disc tray. The DVD movie will begin playing.

The Xbox 360 console can play only region-1 DVD movies.

Cleaning

Clean only with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Using cleaning solutions or attempting to clean connectors may damage your remote.
