What is the difference between Xbox 360 Media Remote Control and Xbox 360 Universal Remote Control?
There are two Xbox 360 remotes that can be used when using Windows Media Center with your Xbox 360 console.
Xbox 360 Media Remote
This remote allows you to access features within Windows Media Center and control DVD playback. For a limited amount of time, the Xbox 360 will include an Xbox 360 Media Remote.
Xbox 360 Universal Remote?
In addition to the features of the Xbox 360 Media Remote, the Xbox 360 Universal Remote can control your TV and is the best way to access the features within Windows Media Center. This remote is an optional accessory, available for purchase.
How do I use Closed Captioning on my Xbox 360 console?
Closed Captioning displays the spoken audio of a TV show in text format on the TV. Closed Captioning can be viewed by pressing? MUTE on the Xbox 360 remotes.
If Closed Captioning does not appear when you press MUTE, you can change the Closed Caption options for Windows Media Center.
Start the Xbox 360 console.
Press the Start button on the remote, and then select Settings > TV > Audio.
Under Caption Display, select the setting you want.
Select Save.
Can I automatically launch Windows Media Center if my Xbox 360 console is powered off?
Yes, if you are using an Xbox 360 remote. If the Xbox 360 console is turned off, press the Start button on your remote and the Xbox 360 console will turn on and start Windows Media Center. You can also start Windows Media Center by pressing the Start button from any location within the Xbox Dashboard.
How can I enter text in Windows Media Center?
Some features in Windows Media Center require you to enter text, such as when you are searching for TV shows by title or keyword. With Xbox 360 you can enter text by using an on-screen keyboard (by using the Xbox 360 controller or either Xbox 360 remote). To display the on-screen keyboard to enter text, press the Y button on the Xbox 360 controller or press DVD MENU on the remotes to display the on-screen keyboard.
If you are using the Xbox 360 Universal Remote, you can use the numeric keypad to enter text. Press the number buttons repeatedly (sometimes called "triple-tap") to enter letters into the fields, just like you would enter text on a wireless phone.
Does Windows Media Center copy media content to my Xbox 360 console?
No. Windows Media Center does not copy media content to the hard drive or memory card of the Xbox 360 console. When you use your Xbox 360 console to play content, your media remains on the Windows Media Center-based PC but is presented to you on the Xbox 360 console.
How do I add additional Music, Pictures or Videos on the Xbox 360 console?
As part of the setup process, music, pictures, and videos are located on the Windows Media Center-based PC and added to the content presented on the Xbox 360 console. To add additional content for use on the Xbox 360 console, complete the following:
Using the Xbox 360 Universal Remote or the Xbox 360 Media Remote
On remote, press Start??and then select either My Music, My Pictures, or My Videos.
Press INFO on the remote.
Select Add Music, Add Pictures, or Add Video and then press OK on the remote.
Follow the steps on screen to add additional content.
Using the Xbox 360 Controller
Make sure Windows Media Center is running.
On the Xbox 360 controller, press the Start button and then select either My Music, My Pictures, or My Videos.
Press the X button on the controller.
Select Add Music, Add Pictures, or Add Video and then press the A button on the controller.
Follow the steps on screen to add additional content.
Note: Once you add additional media locations, the names or titles of the media may not display on the console for a few minutes. During this time, you can continue to use Windows Media Center on the Xbox 360 console.
Is it possible to have two Xbox 360 consoles connected to the Windows Media Center?
Yes. When you connect an Xbox360 console to a Windows Media Center-based PC, a unique user account for the console is created on the PC. This account contains settings that are specific to the Xbox360 console. The settings include such information as locations on the Windows Media Center-based PC containing the music you want to listen to on the Xbox 360. The settings are unique to the console.
Since the settings are unique, you can connect additional consoles to the PC. Depending on your Windows Media Center-based PC, you can connect up to five Xbox 360 consoles.
If I have two or more Xbox 360 consoles connected to a Windows Media Center-based PC, can each console stream different media from the PC?
Yes. Since each Xbox 360 console connected to a Windows Media Center-based PC has a unique user account, each console can stream different media from the PC.
Streaming the media stored in My Music, My Pictures, and My Videos on the Windows Media Center-based PC During setup, you can choose to use the same folders that contain media on the PC (such as the My Music folder, the My Pictures folder, or the My Videos folder). If you do not want to use these folders, you can disable this option.
Streaming the media stored in other locations on the Windows Media Center-based PC Once setup is complete, you can add media from other folders on the PC. To add media, follow the instructions in the preceding section How do I add additional Music, Pictures or Videos on the Xbox 360 console?

Do I need a Hard Drive or Memory Unit to used Windows Media Center?
Windows Media Center does not require a hard drive or memory unit for the Xbox 360 console. Windows Media Center does not copy content from your Windows Media Center-based PC to the Xbox 360 console. Media content streams from the PC to the Xbox 360 console, much like Internet radio station streams music to your PC. When you use your Xbox 360 console to play content, your digital media files and pictures remain on your computer.
Do I need to connect to Xbox Live to use Windows Media Center?
Windows Media Center does not require an Xbox Live connect.However we recommended connect to Xbox Live so that you may keep your Xbox 360 console up to date.
