XBOX SHATTERS SALES RECORDS AT SITEX

14 January 2004

With more than 2,000 units of Xbox sold and total sales of S$1 million, Xbox is the biggest selling single product at Sitex 2003

Xbox proved to be the biggest hit at Sitex 2003 as more than 2,000 units of the Xbox Limited Edition Holiday Bundle were snapped up over the four-day exhibition. Total sales including Xbox games and peripherals hit the S$1 million mark, making Sitex 2003 the biggest single sale at an event for Xbox in Singapore. The overwhelming demand depleted stocks completely on day one, before more stocks were rushed in to meet public demand for the subsequent 3 days of the exhibition.

“We never had a faster moving video game console at Sitex like Xbox,” said Jill Neo, Assistant Manager (Corporate Sales) for Challenger Superstore. Teo Seer Seer, Director IT Buying for Courts also added “As the festive season is approaching, people have purchased the Xbox as a gift idea.” And for Best Denki, it was about value. “A complete value-added product was delivered by the sound partnership of Xbox and Best Denki to the consumers of Singapore,” said Mr C J Raj, Manager Operations and Promotions for Best Denki.

The Limited Edition Holiday Bundle contains the Xbox console, 3 games (Halo, Tetris and Star Wars: The Clone Wars) and the Xbox DVD Movie Playback Kit, and is available at official retailers islandwide at S$358, while stocks last.

The Xbox booth at Sitex was gamers’ playground, with over 40 consoles loaded with all the latest games for everyone to try out the Xbox experience. Visitors got to try out games like Voodoo Vince, Crimson Skies, Amped 2 and Magatama, which were among the huge batch of new titles released in time for the holidays, bringing the total number of Xbox games titles to 150 by the end of 2003. The top five games sold over the four-day period were:

1. Project Gotham Racing 2 (Microsoft Game Studios)

2. FIFA Soccer 2004 (Electronic Arts)

3. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (Electronic Arts)

4. Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge (Microsoft Game Studios)

5. Top Spin (Microsoft Game Studios)

Every purchase of S$30 at the Xbox booth entitled visitors to put their skills to the test at the Xbox Sports Zone to win Xbox merchandise. Gamers also got to prove their mettle at the Project Gotham Racing 2 and Top Spin Xbox game tournaments organized by Brotherhood of the Box, the official Xbox fanclub. Tournament winners walked away with exciting prizes such as Xbox merchandise.
