Xbox 360 Play & Charge Kit

The Xbox 360™ Play & Charge Kit lets you play games while you recharge your battery pack. It is for use exclusively with the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller (included with the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system; sold separately for the Xbox 360 Core system).

The Xbox 360 Play & Charge Kit features:

  • NiMH rechargeable battery pack offering 25 hours of play per charge (also sold separately if you want an additional pack for backup power).
  • Battery fuel gauge accessible in the Xbox Guide.
  • Continuous gameplay while you charge.

Charge the Battery Pack

Charge your Xbox 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack (included with the Play & Charge Kit) before first use and whenever it is depleted. Fully charging the battery can take up to six hours.

To charge the battery pack using the Play & Charge Kit:

  1. Press the tab on the top of the controller's AA battery pack and pull down to detach it from the controller.
  2. Insert the rechargeable battery pack into the battery compartment on the controller and push it in to lock.

    Note

To avoid pinching your fingers when inserting, push only on the flat surface of the battery pack.

  3. Connect the charge cable to the charge port on the front of the controller.

    Important

Do not connect the charge cable without a rechargeable battery pack or AA battery pack installed. This can damage the controller.

  4. Connect the charge cable to a controller port on the console.

  5. Turn on your console.

When you turn on your console, the light on the charge cable will glow red as your battery pack charges. When the light switches to green, the battery pack is fully charged and the controller can be used wirelessly.

Play While You Charge

You can continue to use your controller to play on your Xbox 360 console while the battery pack charges. While connected to the charge cable, your controller will continue to use wireless signals for gameplay.

During play, the controller draws battery power to deliver vibration feedback. The status light may alternate between red and green as it uses battery power and then recharges itself.

Please note that very depleted rechargeable battery packs can take up to 20 minutes to charge enough to power a controller for use with the Play & Charge Kit.

Important

Do not use the charge cable without either a rechargeable battery pack or the wireless controller's AA battery pack installed.

Charge While You Rest

If you leave your wireless controller connected to the charge cable after turning off your console, the console will continue to charge the controller's battery pack while the charge cable light glows red and the console fans run.

Once the battery pack is fully charged, the charge cable light and fans will turn off.

Clean Your Battery Pack

If it is necessary to clean the battery contacts, use only a dry cloth. Water or chemicals can damage the contacts.

Notes

  • Do not touch charge cable or battery pack terminals with your fingers or allow metal parts to touch them. Doing so may damage them.
  • The battery may become warm during charging or use. This is normal and does not indicate a problem with the battery.
  • Remove and store the rechargeable battery pack when not using the controller for a month or longer.
  • If the battery is unused for a long time, it may lose its charge. If this occurs, simply recharge the battery normally.
  • At first, or after storage for a long period of time, it can take from three to five full charge cycles for the battery pack to achieve its full capacity.
  • The battery has a limited life. The amount of play time will decrease as the battery pack ages or after many recharge cycles. The battery pack needs to be replaced when play time becomes too short or when it can no longer be charged.
