Formula for Madness

As if the mad geniuses behind Midtown Madness 3haven’t lavished enough high-speed, high-performance love on the Xbox Live gaming public, here comes DICE with another pack of cars guaranteed to please. Whether you’re a fan of the classics, pure velocity, or cutting-edge design, you’ll find something to like in the new free update from Xbox Live.

Concept
“Where’s my flying car?” That’s all I seem to hear in automotive circles these days. Admittedly, my automotive circle is full of people who know more about four-sided dice than five-speed transmissions, but it is a valid question. DICE’s answer doesn’t quite fly, but it sure does look like it recently arrived through a time hole from the twenty-third century. The sleek futuristic styling offers snappy acceleration and tight handling, with an above average top speed and a lightweight frame that handles a tight course with hard turns quite well.

Top speed: 6
Acceleration: 7
Mass: 3
Handling: 7
Durability: 5

Rusty
Gotta love a car that lives up to its name. Rusty’s like an old dog: sturdy, faithful, and slow to respond. Rusty’s an unassuming car that turns like a boat and has a top speed that’s only a little above average, but it sure can take a beating. And has, apparently. Good for beginners and anyone who wants to keep a low profile in a traffic jam. It’s also handy if you want to just inflict some abuse on other cars.

Top speed: 5
Acceleration: 4
Mass: 7
Handling: 4
Durability: 6

Formula Midtown
Have you ever wanted to race an Indy car through the streets of a large metropolitan city? Now you can turn the streets of Paris and D.C. into the Midtown speedway with the Formula Midtown, the current speed champion of Midtown Madness 3 (though there’s an even faster car coming in the next car pack!). It also has pretty good handling, and you’ll need it—this sucker will flip over and explode if you look at a manhole cover the wrong way. With a durability of ZERO, this one’s definitely for experts only.

Top speed: 9
Acceleration: 9
Mass: 1
Handling: 6
Durability: 0

More Madness Coming Soon
DICE and Microsoft still aren’t done with you yet, race fans. Another car pack is just around the corner, including a new car that’s even faster than the Formula Midtown. When the news is official, you’ll see it here first.
