The show keeps getting better and better. The first day was taking it all in, but the second day I scored access to some super exclusive sneak peeks.
Moore Live I had the great privilege to rub elbows with the man we all know as Peter Moore. During an intense Q and A session, I was able to ask Mr. Moore what is in store for Xbox Live. His answer? Updates, updates, updates. He told me the focus for right now is working out the kinks and making it more “friendly” (read: fixing annoying issues like having to scroll through an entire music library to get to your ZZ Top).
Massive Effects Yesterday I spoke about Gears of War being the game of the show. Well I may have spoken too soon. Don’t get me wrong Gears of War is all that and a bag of schwag, but after seeing Mass Effect from our home-grown Bioware, it may be all that, a bag of schwag, and a wee bit more. The size of the universe they have created is mind boggling and oh so good.
I feel torn between two great loves, Mass Effect and Gears of War. I was able to sit down today and actually play Gears of War. I thought watching it was enough to be giddy like a grade 8 relationship, but playing it surely takes it to the next level. The short of the long: WOW. And to top it all off, after playing they provided me with this super sweet, super limited edition face plate... I will start taking bids now.
Dino-tastic! Canada’s own Propaganda games (based out of Vancouver) took time out to give me an early look at Turok, coming to Xbox 360 in late 2007. From what I saw, the game strips the Turok franchise down to the core elements that made it such a great shooter. It has a new twist on the Turok story, and looks unbelievable. Who wouldn’t want to see their enemies torn to shreds by huge dinosaurs! This is one to watch for.
The American Jade Jade and I had a run in with Trixie, now fondly referred to as the American Jade. She tried to score some time with me, but I gotta stay true to my Canadian roots. Oh, and we smoked Trixie’s winner, or at least we would have if we could have torn her away from Prey.
Lasting Impressions There were so many games and so much to talk about. They could send thousands of reporters and numerous online journal communities just to cover all the games.... oh wait they do. So what was E3 about for me? It was all about taking in the sights and the sounds, meeting people (Jenny, Peter), and really feeling the show. And after 3 days of the show, I feel, tired. It’s not easy being Jade’s Informer. Do this, play this game, meet this developer, take this picture, eat that, party here, all that intense tiring stuff. E3 was an amazing experience that can’t be described fully, rather, it needs to be experienced. And after this week, I believe I experienced the surreal.
