Backward Compatibility Technical Support and Known Issues

• Xbox 360™: A black or gray bar appears on either side of the screen when you try to play an original Xbox® game on an Xbox 360 console.
• Xbox 360: You cannot play some original Xbox games when you use an Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable.
• Xbox 360: You receive a message when you try to sign in to Xbox Live® by using the Halo® 2 in-game menu.
• Xbox 360: "Can't play this game" error message.
• Xbox 360: Xbox Live message content is missing or you cannot reply to a message or send a message.
• Xbox 360: Some games that have the same title are not compatible with one another.

Although we test all games before adding them to the compatibility list, inevitably some problems slip through undetected. Here are issues we have been made aware of and workarounds, if any are known.  We continue to work hard not only to increase the number of games that are compatible, but also to improve the compatibility of games already on the list. Thank you for your patience.

Barbie™ Horse Adventures: Wild Horse Rescue™
In split-screen, only the top half of the screen is drawn correctly.

Call of Cthulhu®: Dark Corners of the Earth™
The opening cinematic is partially missing (screen is all white, but sound continues to play).

Crash Nitro Kart™
Single-player is fine, but multiplayer games do not work.

Fable®/Fable®: The Lost Chapters™
There is an occasional audio "scratch" or static popping sound.

Halo® 2
You may occasionally observe "ghost" images displayed on the screen. To work around this, return to the Dashboard and restart the game. Additionally, there are performance problems when playing on the Backwash map.

Ninja Gaiden®
The unlockable NES arcade games cannot be played.

Ninja Gaiden® BLACK
The unlockable NES arcade games cannot be played.
This game renders at a slightly reduced speed on PAL-50 televisions. It runs properly under PAL-60.

SSX 3
This game has minor graphics glitches.

Sniper Elite
This game hangs at the beginning of the single-player mission.

Star Wars® Jedi Knight®: Jedi Academy™
Single player is fine, but multiplayer and split-screen games do not work.

Star Wars®: The Clone Wars™
Unable to play games on Xbox Live.

Tetris Worlds™
There are two versions of this game. The offline version runs fine, but the Xbox Live™-enabled version is not compatible.The Xbox Live™ version has an Xbox Live™ orange stripe near the top of the front of the package, just under the Xbox logo.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon™ 2
Night vision doesn’t work properly in split-screen multiplayer.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon® 2: Summit Strike
In split-screen multiplayer games, the screen is completely black.
