Gamertag Recovery: Error Code 0x80150010

 

Occasionally, an Xbox Live membership will fail to complete the Recover Gamertag from Xbox Live procedure during account migration (activating your Xbox Live membership for use with Xbox 360™).

You'll know you're experiencing this problem if you receive an error message with the code 0x80150010. This error will prevent a connection to Xbox Live using Xbox 360.

To correct this, link your Xbox Live gamertag to a new Microsoft Passport Network account, which you can create right from the Xbox Dashboard on your Xbox 360 console.

Note

A Passport Network account requires a valid e-mail address, which cannot be created from the Xbox Dashboard.

To link your gamertag to a new Passport Network account:

  1. Turn on your Xbox 360 console with no disc in the tray and make sure all profiles are signed out (X). Go to the Xbox Live area of the Xbox Dashboard and select Recover Gamertag from Xbox Live.
  2. Enter your gamertag on the Xbox Live Gamertag screen.

    Tip

    You can enter information using either a USB PC keyboard plugged into a controller port or your Xbox 360 controller and the on-screen virtual keyboard.

  3. On the Passport Network account screen, do not supply the e-mail address and password associated with the Passport Network account that's already linked to your gamertag.

    Instead, press Y to "Recover with Original Xbox Info."
  4. Enter the following information on the "Confirm Identity for <Gamertag>" screen (if you're a minor, you may need your parent or guardian to supply this information):
    • Last four digits of the credit card associated with your Xbox Live membership.
    • Full name (as it appears on the credit card).
    • Phone number (including area code).
    • Postal (ZIP) code.


    You can find this information in the "Xbox Live Account Management" section of the Xbox Dashboard on your original Xbox console.
  5. On the Passport Network Account screen, enter the details for your new Passport account, not the details for the Passport account that's currently linked to your gamertag.

    Select Sign In and follow the on-screen steps to finish recovering your account to your Xbox 360 console.

    Minors, please note:
    • Your parent or guardian must be present to complete the account-recovery process.
    • Family Settings will be applied to this Xbox Live membership. Your parent or guardian can adjust these settings at any time by selecting the Family Settings option from the System area of the Xbox Dashboard.
