Set Up Your Connection

Choose your connection type

For Qwest DSL with MSN Premium, we suggest you use either a direct connection or a router connection.

Which connection to use depends on which modem you have:

  • For MSN DSL 800/1000 modems, you must use a direct connection. You must also upgrade your firmware before connecting to Xbox Live.
  • For Cisco 675/678 modems, use a direct connection. You must use the cross-over Ethernet cable that came with your Cisco modem.
  • For Intel 2100/2200/3200 modems, you will need to use Windows ICS connection.

DirectConnection with Qwest DSL with MSN Premium

For a direct connection, you will need a standard Ethernet cable (or cross-over for Cisco 675/678 modems) with RJ-45 connectors. To directly connect your hardware:

  1. Turn off your devices (Xbox console, DSL modem, and, if you have one, your PC) before connecting any cables.

You must disconnect your modem from its power source to turn it off.
  2. Disconnect the cable (Ethernet or USB) connecting your PC to your DSL modem.
  3. Connect the Ethernet out port on the modem to the Ethernet port on the back of the Xbox console using the Ethernet cable.
  4. Turn on your modem.
  5. Turn on your Xbox console, with no disc in the disc tray.
  6. From the Xbox Dashboard, choose Settings, Network Settings, and then Connect.

Your settings are now used to connect to Xbox Live. Progress is displayed on the Connect Status screen. If the last item is "Connected to Xbox Live," congratulations! You are connected to Xbox Live.
