The story of Roger Bannister, who was the first man to break racing's four-minute-mile mark, a threshold once considered physically impossible to break. Set against the backdrop of post WWII Great Britain, Bannister initially has no intentions to become a miler, instead focusing on medical studies at Oxford. On a whim, Bannister attempts to run and realizes that he is naturally gifted. He then uses his medical studies as a way to inform and transform his running. After several high profile defeats, including the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, Bannister brings all of his mental and physical strengths together to run the first mile in under four minutes.
