Thriving Ivory

Published December 1, 2008

"The magic is in the mystery" is what keyboardist Scott Jason says about how he approaches composing songs. It's also a suitably enigmatic description of California quintet Thriving Ivory's visceral rock and roll sound.

The band started when Jason met and listened to vocalist Clayton Stroope when they attended UC Santa Barbara. "As soon as I heard Clayton sing, that was pretty much it—let's form a band," he says. And Stroope's praise of Jason's writing skills is reciprocal, "Scott's songs have this wonderful lyrical depth to them and are very accessible," he notes, "It is so easy to put my vocal emotions into them."

With the addition of Drew Cribley on guitar, Bret Cohune on bass, and Paul Niedermier on drums, the band came together and have released their debut self-titled album on Wind-up Records.

The band has received positively rave reviews from disparate sources including theowlmag.com, DecoyMusic.com, and the staff at San Francisco radio station KITS Live 105 who put the band's cornerstone song "Angels on the Moon" into heavy rotation. It's rare to come across a new band that receives accolades across the board for their first effort, but if the music is great, it will touch the people and they will listen.
