Pandora Tomorrow Launch Event Recap

The anticipation mounted like a fever. From the sick game review scores (tens and nine-fives) to the pre-screening at the Sundance Film Festival—complete with Paris Hilton, racy gossip, and a who's who of the young Hollywood gaming scene—the hype for Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell® Pandora Tomorrow™ was impressive. And the Xbox Live launch event—a coast-to-coast showdown between New York and Los Angeles—threw it into high gear.

New York City gets ready to rumble.

A few weeks ago, Xbox Live and Ubi Soft recruited gamers from all over the country to represent New York and L.A. in a bi-coastal bash to kick off the Pandora Tomorrow launch. Half were flown to New York, half were flown to L.A., and all spent the weekend mastering the game. Looking for more game info? We’ll just say this: If you liked the original but itch for a faster pace, Pandora Tomorrow multiplayer is your nirvana.

The game rocked on the big theater screens in New York and L.A. The only things louder than the thundering sound system were the screaming Xbox Live fanatics who won the chance to attend through local radio station promotions. People gathered in line as early as 3:00 p.m. Both multiplexes were packed, and the throngs howled for their home teams.

L.A. jumped to an early lead in the five-round affair, and New York fired back in the third frame. In round four, the L.A. contingent unleashed its secret weapons: Damien Ryder Grosser and Jason Hiester. It was a competitive knock-out round, but L.A. claimed the victory and bragging rights.

After the dust settled, the gamers mingled with some of the celebs that couldn't resist the event, including Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan from The Lord of the Rings, Backstreet Boys Nick Carter, AJ McLean, Brian Littrell, and Kevin Richardson, as well as Tove Christenson (producer of the critically-acclaimed film Shattered Glass—starring brother Hayden Christenson—which releases on DVD next week).

Overall, it was a smashing debut for this awesome new game.
