Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon™ 2

Online Spotlight

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon™ 2 seems like it was made to keep you online. As strong as the single-player campaign is with its new third-person perspective, Future Force Warrior gear, and hotter hot zones, online multiplayer is where the truly sick replay value is. Even if you've played all of the Ghost Recon games on XboxLive™ before, you're still in for a few major surprises.Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2 has full Xbox Live 3.0 support with clans, stat tracking, leaderboards, and team-organized competitions. Up to sixteen players can compete in the same match and take advantage of the improved lobby system and upgraded voice interaction via the Xbox Live Communicator Headset. GR2 features a full range of co-op and competitive modes for both individuals and teams, including everything from straight-up death matches to innovative twists like Siege, and Seek and Destroy.

The latest in online action.

If it's co-op you're after, you've come to the right game. In addition to playing through the basic single-player missions with a friend, you can also defend your base against a horde of AI invaders or go for stealth in the sneaky Recon mode. These Co-Op game types can all be customized so that each player only gets one life or as many respawns as the host sets.

The competitive modes are even wilder and can be played as free-for-alls or as organized team vs. team events. Hamburger Hill matches feature a single control point that players must occupy—the longer you're in control, the more points you score. Squad-based Domination games are similar, only they have multiple control points and your entire team must work together to occupy as many of them for as long as you can to bring home the winning score. Search and Rescue is another team-based game where everyone is trying to rescue hostages from the enemy. The team with the most rescues wins.

Sieges are made to be broken.

The most intriguing game modes online are definitely Siege, and Seek and Destroy. Siege games are some of the most intense firefights on Xbox Live. The rules are simple for this team-based game: One side digs in and defends an area while the other tries to break through and gain access to it. Everyone is in constant motion as the invaders storm the site from as many directions as possible and the defenders shoot like mad to keep the enemy at bay. If you go down, your post will go unmanned until you respawn or one of your teammates fills in the gap for you. Victory depends on every team member pulling his weight, because being one man down can quickly turn into a serious disadvantage. You can't defend if the attackers overrun your teammate and flank you, and you can't attack if the defenders keep picking your side off before you can mount a serious charge. The ebb and flow of Siege games is fast, intense, and a whole lot of fun.

Seek and Destroy is kind of like a game of It—with high-powered weaponry. The first player to make a kill becomes the Lone Wolf, complete with all the killer Future Force Warrior gear like the M29 camera-assisted assault rifle, timed airburst grenades, and the ability to call down air strikes. The only way to score points is to wipe out the other guys (or the other team) while you're the Lone Wolf, and if you're killed, whoever takes you down becomes It. Scoring kills as the Lone Wolf is not as easy as it sounds, even with all the fancy firearms. The Lone Wolf is called out as a special target on every other player's radar, so they'll always know where to find you. You may have the best gun in the game, but it's literally you against everyone else for as long as you have it.

Welcome to Ghost Alley online.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2 upholds the series' long tradition of online excellence. With old favorites and new wrinkles to keep veterans and new recruits alike interested, this may be the best Ghost Recon yet.
