In depth details on the new content download for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
Trouble is brewing within the borders of Morrowind; the arch-mage Frathen Drothan is building an army to reestablish his beloved Dunmer from under what he perceives to be the yoke of Imperial rule. He has come to Cyrodiil in search of the powerful artifact Mehrune's Razor to give him the edge he craves and the courage he needs to press the attack.
Vast, subterranean, and filled with goodies.
This is the setup of the latest content download for The Elder Scrolls® IV: Oblivion™, and it marks, by far, the largest addition to the game yet. The Mehrune's Razor download offers the single largest dungeon in all of Cyrodiil, a host of magic items never before seen, a stand-alone epic story, and the much craved Mehrune's Razor artifact.
Keep your eyes peeled, search every nook and cranny, and you'll walk away with loot worth upwards of 40,000 gold.
Because the rewards offered throughout the quest are spectacular, you can expect the challenge to be equally severe. You may want to hold off tackling this quest until you reach the later levels.
Setting Out After downloading the Mehrune's Razor update, you'll be greeted with a new quest as soon as you load your game. However, don't rush out to the location just yet. This quest offers one of the most difficult challenges in the game, so prepare appropriately. Make sure you've got plenty of:
Restore Health potions.
Restore Magicka potions.
Restore attribute potions
Cure Disease and Cure Poison potions.
Repair hammers. Expect to use upwards of 20-30 unless your Armorer skill is very high.
Lock picks, unless you use spells to unlock chests and doors.
A heavy duty Feather potion or two for getting all the loot out.
The Morag Tong assassin is near in this hidden village.
Loot A-Plenty The story is compelling, the architecture vast and beautiful, and the enemies ruthless, but it's the bountiful treasure held within the dungeon that makes the adventurer drool in anticipation. Read no further if you want to be surprised, but otherwise, take note of these wonderful magic items:
Morag Tong Armor: The Morag Tong are to Morrowind what the Dark Brotherhood is to the Cyrodiil; a clan of assassins steeped in mystery and cloaked in danger. Also like the Dark Brotherhood, their armor is legendary. You'll find the assassin locked away in the underground village, and when he is eliminated, you'll find this light armor set:
Morag Tong Cowl: Armor value: 0, Fortify Marksman 10 points, and Detect Life 100 ft.
Morag Tong Cuirass: Armor value 10, Fortify Agility 9 points, Resist Normal Weapons 20%, Resist Magic 20%.
Mehrune's Razor: This epic item is among the most powerful in all of Oblivion, as it not only does remarkable damage (18), but also boasts Daedric Banishing (chance to banish your enemy to the Oblivion plane) along with Disintegrate Armor of 15 points for 7 seconds on strike.
A glimpse of the final prize in its malevolent glory.
And So On The above items reflect the most powerful in the dungeon, but by no means account for all the magic items or loot. Sundercliff Watch and Varsa Baalim hold more treasure than even the Gray Fox could remove, as chest upon Ayeleid cask upon fallen foe give up riches well beyond any other dungeon in the game. Keep your eyes peeled, search every nook and cranny, and you'll walk away with loot worth upwards of 40,000 gold.
The Mehrune's Razor update continues a consistent trend from Bethesda as they add value to the Oblivion experience well after its release. Tamriel is a living, breathing world with plenty of room still left for added adventure.
