Straight from the big screen comes The SpongeBob SquarePants™ Movie for the Xbox®! While this game does recreate the adventures of SpongeBob SquarePants and his pal Patrick the starfish, it also has tons of stuff you won't see at the movies.
Here's a look at the beginning levels, where you'll lose a promotion, go on an ice cream binge, and learn how to come out on top in Bikini Bottom.
Foam fists of fury.
After the intro, you get control of SpongeBob just outside the crime scene at the Krabby Patty. Things are ugly: there are police barricades, crashing trucks, and lots of Plankton's evil Plan Z boxes to smash open. There's even a semi that jackknifes right on the road in front of you. Move through the area, smashing everything you can, and collect all the barbells you see. Use double jumps to climb up stacked boxes to keep moving forward.
After a cut scene shows Patrick discovering how to beat the jellyfish (with a spin attack), clear out the staircase of platforms. Tongue-slide down the slope and hop across the water to find a secret item.
You'll come to an area that looks impassable. Move to the big button and spin to temporarily lower the platform, so you can climb on and move on. After a few more jellyfish, you'll come to a wall of boxes. Smash them all and you've reached the first checkpoint.
Collect all the goodies in the next level and hit both buttons (jump and spin to hit the higher one). This opens up an alley in the rocks. Wall jump from one side to the other until you reach the top. There, break through the rock wall with your spin to reveal the roped off area near the police barricade back at the start.
Clean out the area, and when you're done, go to the trampoline and hit it. It will take you right outside the Krusty Krab, where you'll find your first Goofy Goober token. Congratulations! Now, it's time for Patrick to take over …
Fighting starfish.
The cut scene shows our heroes living it up on ice cream (and suffering for it). While they gorge, the plot unfolds. King Neptune's crown is stolen, and Mr. Krabs is taking the blame. Before they can clear Krabs' name and stop Plankton's mind-control scheme, they have to get out of the Goofy Goober ice cream parlor.
The plan stays the same: Smash open all boxes, collect all barbells, and spin through all enemies. You'll face new goons, like the Fogger (who belches toxic green gas) and the Slammer (who puts a big hammer to good use), sometimes at the same time. Always take out the Slammers first—they're more aggressive, do more damage to you, and can take more hits. It's best to take care of them before they sneak up on you.
As Patrick, move through the Goofy Goober by jumping on the rising pillars and floating platforms. Cross the room again by using the trampolines. If you fall, simply retrace your steps and try again. You'll come to a room full of chocolate syrup that you'll have to avoid by sticking to the platforms. Across the room is a cannon that launches more enemies. Ignore them and follow the bridge path to the cannon. Spin to wreck it; then, backtrack and clean up the enemies. Welcome to your next Checkpoint!
Patrick's a swinger.
Next, practice your Tongue Swing to cross the next room. It's worth dropping down to the area below because there are lots of boxes to smash and a secret room to explore. Once you've swung across and moved on, you'll fight a collection of enemies and have your first conversation with Mindy, King Neptune's daughter.
Mindy will tempt you with the offer of a Cartwheel attack and open up the first mini-game challenge. You can accept the challenge to fight more than 100 Foggers and Slammers, bust down a wall to explore a hidden area, or do both. If you beat the challenge, Mindy will unlock Patrick's Cartwheel attack.
When you exit this room through the only remaining door, you'll face another chocolate syrup room with one large platform and a cannon at the far end. The cannon launches enemies that you must fight, but you cannot reach the cannon to destroy it until you hit a button on each side of the room. Once you do, the enemies stop, and a new platform rises. Hop over to the cannon, shatter it with a spin, and lie back to bask in a job well done.
The next levels of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movieintroduce driving levels and challenges that put SpongeBob and Patrick behind the wheel of the Patty Wagon, creating all sorts of new opportunities for fun and adventure.
Once you've mastered the driving as well as the collection and combat elements, you're well on your way to saving Neptune's Crown and defeating the evil Plankton. More skills, abilities, and enemies await—are you manly enough to face them?
