Lady Liberty Challenge

As a resident of New York City, Spider-Man takes great pride in the Statue of Liberty (even though it’s technically in New Jersey). And, when Mysterio gives Lady Liberty a makeover, it’s up to Spider-Man to set things straight. Most gamers can get the job done, but this Xbox Challenge demands that you do it in less than five minutes. Are you game?

Follow the Line of UFOs.

The Approach
There are two methods for web-swinging your way out to Liberty Island: catching a ride on a helicopter or swinging from one UFO to another all the way across. The UFO method is superior, if only because you won’t have to wait for a chopper to happen by. There’s a much greater risk of falling into the water between swings with this method, but if you’ve got your web-swinging down, that won’t even be an issue.

While still on the ground, move over to the closest UFO and charge your jump to full. Then, swing from one UFO to the next, keeping an eye on each new web line you send out. You don’t want to miss a tower or swing so low that you hit the water. Otherwise, it’s back to the mainland dock for you. The UFOs aren’t lined up straight, so you’ll have to change direction near the end for that sharp right turn. But, if you keep yourself high enough and always watch where your next web is going, you should reach the island in short order.

Swing, smash orb, repeat.

The Orbs
Once you’re there, it’s easy to get to the top of the statue. All you need to do is hitch a web to one of the UFOs that rise and fall every few seconds. Ride to the top and then jump off, aiming for the rotating spokes of Mysterio’s bizarre machine. There’s an orb at the end of each spoke, and you can’t attack the hub until you smash all eight. The spokes are in constant motion, so it’s tough to swing directly to each one. It’s easier when you’re swinging from above. Try to hook your webs to the highest parts of the spokes (the ones above the orbs) and then leap down at your target. The game gives you a bit of a break, though. If you’re reasonably close, it allows you to get a few shots in and destroy the fragile orbs, but if you miss, you’re just going to fall and lose time. Stay as far out and as far up as you can during this part of the challenge, and if you miss an orb, don’t be afraid to try swinging in circles on the spokes themselves with just your hands. It will keep you at the right altitude, and if you’re slick, you can let go and hurl yourself right into the next orb. Once you get all eight, do not linger! If you wait too long between smashing the orbs and attacking the brain, the orbs respawn, and you’ll have to start all over.

Here I come, Brain.

The Brain
Okay, the orbs are gone, and all you need to do is reach the hub. It’s harder than it sounds, though, because the hub is higher than the spokes, and you cannot stick to it and climb your way up. The best way to reach the center is to get out as far as you can on one of the spokes. Swing in toward the hub, charging your jump and holding your sprint trigger, and release. This should launch you high over the hub and allow you to land very near the center.

Once there, jump up on the exposed brain-thing and start attacking. There are powerful spinning blades waiting to shred you up if you slip down from the brain casing, but the brain itself is not too tough. A few solid hits will destroy it and break the hologramatic illusion Mysterio has created.
