Guide to Your Ride

Get up-to-speed on the stylin’ series you’ll find in Project Gotham Racing® 2.

American Muscle: Big displacement, squealing tires, and plenty of chrome. It’s all here in the shape of cars such as the Corvette Sting Ray, Pontiac GTO, and Ford Mustang. Covering more than 30 years of U.S. motoring heritage, there’s something for everyone who likes big cars with big performance.

Coupe: Sleek cruisers that combine performance and good looks with predictable dynamics. Usable performance helps decrease lap times, and stylish design turns heads. Cars like the Audi TT and BMW M3 are traditional favorites for fast laps, while others, like the recently introduced Mazda RX8 and Nissan 350Z, have what it takes to impress.

Classics: The greatest hits of modern motoring, these cars have earned their place in the pantheon of performance. From handling gods like the '73 Porsche 911 RS and 550 Spyder to the devilishly fast Ferrari 250GTO and Jaguar E-Type, this class is a museum of speed and beauty.

Extreme: Cars that provided a benchmark of performance that all others aspired to. With awesome performance and pioneering technology, these cars demand respect, from the LeMans conquering Ford GT40 to top speed record holders like the Jaguar XJ220, Ferrari F40, and Porsche 959.

Grand Touring: Classic GTs provide effortless performance that reduces long distances to a trip to the store and tidal waves of power with all the luxury a race king wants. Cars like the Ferrari Maranello and Aston Martin Vanquish provide a more gentleman-like approach to destroying the opposition: air-con on, stereo up, throttle down.

Pacific Muscle: From the land of the rising sun and rising revs come Japanese street racers that mix mechanical and technical wizardry to create pure performance. Rally weapons like the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo and Subaru Impreza WRX show they can also do the business on city streets, and the Nissan Skyline GTR and Mazda RX-7 define Japan's philosophy on fast cars, speed through technical innovation.

Roadster: High power with minimal weight, sports cars such as the Lotus Elise and Caterham 7 put performance above all else. Function takes first place over form to maximize the driving experience, which results in wild-looking cars like the Lotus 340R.

Sports Compact: A performance-orientated small car, this is your mom's car with a trick engine and suspension. These cars offer maximum thrills for minimum price. Cars in this class, such as the MINI Cooper S, Ford Focus RS, and Renault Clio V6, not only provide an excellent introduction to performance motoring but their small size, immediate performance, and super maneuverability can keep a Porsche honest on a tight track.

Sports Convertible: These sports cars blend stylish looks and a sweet chassis. With the roof down and throttle open, the emphasis is on fun driving with predictable handling. Ranging from the perfect proportions of the Mazda MX5 and Toyota MR2-S to the classic design of the Porsche Boxster S and the revolutionary look of the BMW Z4, every car in this class has the telltale sports car credentials: a great blend of power and control.

Sports Coupe: Premium brand cars, sports coupes have great performance and sporting heritage. Porsche’s Carrera defines the class with competitors such as the Jaguar XKR, Cadillac XLR, and Morgan Aero8 displaying all the characteristics of their respective marques.

Super Car: Blistering performance and wild looks. This series is traditional Porsche and Ferrari territory, represented by the 911 Turbo and 360 Modena/Spider, respectively. But there are also powerful contenders such as the TVR Tuscan and Dodge Viper GTS. This is where the really big hitters start to come out.

SUV: Super-sized and super cool, these are modern “off roaders” with “on road” performance and handling. Cars from premium manufacturers like the Porsche Cayanne and BMW X5 bring sports-like handling to the class, with the Ford SVT Lightning and Chevrolet SSR adding tire-shredding poke. SUVs offer performance you want, and you can take your dog for the ride.

Track Specials: Racecars with license plates. Minimalist and in a high state of tune, these cars are designed to demolish lap times. Cars such as the Ferrari 360 Stradale, Porsche GT3, and Honda NSX-R are raw, light, loud, and very quick, but they demand a committed driver who's willing to sacrifice cabin carpet for an extra tenth of a second off the track record.

Ultimate: The pinnacle of current automobile manufacturing and design, this class delivers Cutting-edge technology and groundbreaking mechanical design with jaw-dropping styling. Cars like the Enzo Ferrari, Porsche Carrera GT, and Pagani Zonda S rewrite the performance record books and prove exactly how wild some cars can get.
