Cast in the Pit

Pitfall Harry
Rogue. Scoundrel. Adventurer. Archaeologist. Scientist. Not necessarily in that order. Or, well, maybe close to that order. All right, yes, in that order. Harry has been making the circuit of the world’s most exotic and remote locations for many years and has become somewhat of a specialist in the recovery of otherwise lost items of historical significance and value. In other words, he’s one of the world’s best treasure hunters. Far better than that guy with the bullwhip or that Englishwoman (beautiful though she may be).

The man himself, Pitfall Harry.

Dr. Bernard Bittenbinder
As a scientist, there’s no doubt that Bernard Bittenbinder has earned his credentials. He’s an archaeologist with enough field experience to qualify him for any expedition, and he even spent time as an assistant to the renowned Kevin McCallister. The trouble is deciding whether Bittenbinder is being completely honest with Harry about what he knows and if what he knows could be a danger to Harry or the other souls trapped in the Peruvian jungle.

Nicole
Harry in interested in Nicole the first time he lays eyes on her during the flight over the Peruvian jungle. She’s the most beautiful woman on the plane (admittedly, the only woman on the plane). Nicole is academically brilliant but lacks field experience. She’s a veritable walking encyclopedia of flora and fauna, but she’s never been close to a real jungle. Nicole is a strong-willed woman, well aware of the nature of Harry’s charming advances and more than capable of recognizing him for what he is: a scoundrel. As it turns out, though, he’s one scoundrel whose help she’ll need.

Leech
Most of the time, no one really knows what Leech is working on because his mind is literally years ahead of most scientists his age. Leech lacks social skills and compensates by trying to be a laughable fellow to keep others at bay. As long as they think he’s just a goofy nerd, no one will bother getting too close. Leech is going to need Harry’s help on this adventure, and if the two of them can put their talents together, they might all get out of this jungle alive.

St. Claire
Known around the world as a speculator in the rare goods and antiquities market, St. Claire is a lying, money-hungry mercenary who’d as soon leave you dead as split the find with you. A Frenchman who grew up on the streets, St. Claire is a smooth operator, a con man, and a ruthless enemy. He and Harry have crossed paths in the past, and there’s no love lost between them now.

The Shaman
As Harry explores the depths of the Peruvian jungle, he’s sure to encounter the Shaman, a native of great wisdom and knowledge who holds the secret to Harry’s eventual triumph. The Shaman’s help does not come for free, though. He demands the return of certain idols—idols that Harry is perfectly suited to recover. For a price, he can instruct Harry in secret arts (Heroic Actions) and can also furnish vital information and pieces of the map Harry needs. Sometimes the Shaman falls asleep (there’s not a lot to do in the jungle), so just give him a little kick to wake him up.

Natives
The natives are understandably upset that you dropped an enormous pile of flaming airplane wreckage into their jungle home. Though they aren’t well armed, they can pelt Harry with coconuts in a most distracting fashion, so he’ll have to knock them out if he wants to get anything accomplished.

Monkeys
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: The monkeys are not your friends. The unhealthy friendship some people feel for monkeys because of their overwhelming genetic similarity to us is wrong and frankly dangerous. These monkeys are evil.
