In Need for Speed™ Carbon, late at night, the warring car factions Muscles, Tuners, and Exotics, take to the lethal curves of Carbon Canyon to settle accounts. Who will be the best racer, and who will find themselves flying past the guardrail into the canyon below?

Speedtrap Racing
It doesn't matter what your speed is between speedtraps, the important thing is to max your speed before you pass the next one.

Settle it on the streets.

Settle it on the streets.

In a speedtrap race, consider a drafter your best friend. Activate the drafter before the speedtrap and get in his wake. Both you and your drafter will post insane speeds at the trap.

Racing Techniques
If you find yourself constantly hitting walls and driving off the road while cornering, try racing with one finger constantly covering the Speedbreaker button. At a moment's notice you can slow time, recover control, deactivate the Speedbreaker, use NOS, and power out of an otherwise troublesome corner.

Always remember: Slow in, fast out. Make this your braking mantra. The sooner you slow before a turn, the faster you can accelerate out of it. Use this technique to save precious seconds of lap time, preventing uncontrollable slides and disastrous collisions. The opposite "technique," fast in, slow out, is the downfall of many inexperienced drivers.

If you have trouble keeping the lead in a race, invest in a blocker. Activate your blocker when you have the lead, and he will take out any challengers behind you.

You don't always have to go it alone.

If you want to earn the most bonus cash in the Career mode, make sure your team consists of Neville, Samson, and Yumi.

Tuning Tips
If you plan to do a lot of drifting, or are racing on short, tight tracks, tune your engine for low gear ratios and torque to get quicker acceleration. If you're racing on longer, straighter courses, where you really want to open up the throttle, tune instead for high gear ratios and horsepower.

If drifting is your thing, make sure to tune for oversteering. This will let the rear end of your car slide out from under you more easily. If you have a hard time keeping the line while cornering, tune instead for understeering. Don't over-do it, though, or you'll hinder yourself instead.

For short races, tune for velocity to squeeze the most out of your speed. On longer tracks, tune instead for duration, where conserving your NOS is critical.
