Xbox Music Mixer FAQ

Do I need to have Xbox Music Mixer to use the Music Mixer PC Tool for transferring music and photos to my Xbox?

Yes. If you don’t have Xbox Music Mixer, here’s where you can get it.

What operating system works with the PC Tool?

Windows XP.

How can I get more karaoke songs for Xbox Music Mixer?

Coming soon, you'll be able to purchase karaoke songs on Xbox Live and download them directly to your Xbox (Xbox Live subscription required). You can also purchase karaoke songs onwww.xboxkaraoke.com, plus you can transfer MP3 and WMA files from your computer using the PC Tool and sing along with them as well.

I’ve got my PC and Xbox connected, but I’m having trouble transferring my files. What’s up?

It could be a firewall issue. You don’t need to (and shouldn’t) disable your firewall to use the PC Tool, but you do need to have a couple of ports open: TCP3074 and UPD 3074. Here’s how to open these ports: www.microsoft.com/security/protect/ports.asp

It could be your cable. Are you sure you used a crossover Ethernet cable, such as an Xbox System Link cable? It won’t work with a regular “straight-through” Ethernet cable.

Are the lights blinking on your network card? If they’re not, your card may not be working.

If you’ve got a home network set up, make sure that your Xbox Live settings are set to Automatic.

If this doesn’t help, please see Troubleshooting.

I can’t play the karaoke songs I downloaded. The track length says 0:00. What gives?

Here’s what probably happened. When you entered your Purchase Key, you typed in the wrong number. So you’ll want to delete those 0:00 tracks and download the ones you want again—and this time be really careful when you type in the Purchase Key!

To delete tracks:

1.Select Karaoke from the main menu.
2.Select Sing.
3.Highlight the track you want to delete.
4.Press X.
5.Confirm.

Purchase key? How do I get one?

If you’ve got Xbox Music Mixer, you’ve got a purchase key. Here’s how to find it:

1.Insert your Music Mixer disc into your Xbox console.
2.Select Karaoke from the main menu.
3.Select Import.
4.Write down the seven digit karaoke purchase key.
5.Enter this number when prompted at the purchase Web site.

I want to sing along with my own CDs and soundtracks I created with the PC Tool, but I don’t see any lyrics.

Your CDs and your music files don’t have lyrics attached to them the way downloadable karaoke songs do. Just belt it out—you know the words!

How does Xbox Music Mixer name discs and tracks?

If you copy a CD to your Xbox using Music Mixer, the CD and track titles should appear (as long as the CD is in the database that Mixer uses). The database needs to updated periodically to add the most current releases. Regular updates to the database via Xbox Live will begin soon.

If you copy a CD to your Xbox through the Xbox Dashboard, Music Mixer will attempt to update the CD and songs information, and the track titles will appear when you open Music Mixer and play the soundtrack.

I recently purchased more than 300 karaoke songs. When I tried to import them to my Xbox, I received a message that said I was over the 250 karaoke song limit! How can I get all the karaoke songs I want?

A 250-song limit exists for karaoke songs on your Xbox. If you have more than 250 karaoke songs, you can manage the extra amount on your PC. When you’ve maxed out the limit on your Xbox, just delete some songs to make room to import new ones from your PC. Because the songs live on your PC, you can copy them over to the Xbox whenever you want them.
