Mortal Kombat®: Deception™

Guide to Fatalities II

In our "Guide to Fatalities I," we broke down one gore-filled Fatality after another for every fighter available by default in Mortal Kombat®: Deception™. It was a trip filled with bursting hearts, sliced bodies, all-consuming flames, decapitations, limb removal, and any number of other brutal effects.

Now, we dive into the secretive realm of the unlockable characters. There are 12 in all—including some old fan favorites—each of which boasts some of the best Fatalities in the game. Let's get right down to the gruesome nitty-gritty and see what they have to offer.

Note: It's easier to use the D-pad when attempting a Fatality. Also, each Fatality requires you to start your sequence at set distance from your opponent. There are three distance requirements. They are:

  • Close: Stand right next to the enemy.
  • Sweep: Stand a few feet from the enemy, but still close enough for a sweep attack to hit.
  • Far: Position your fighter a couple of jumps back from the enemy.

Finally, when you are in position, press the left trigger to enter the Fatality stance. This will ensure your fighter doesn't jump around when you're attempting the Fatality.

No problem.

Jade: Wait for it!
Distance: Close
Button Sequence: Back, Forward, Forward, Forward, Y

Jade busts out her Bojutsu spear-like weapon, and with a flourishing run-by attack, she slices through her opponent's midriff. At first, just a bit of blood oozes forth, but give it a couple seconds, and you'll witness the upper half of their body slide from the lower half. A fitting end, no doubt.

Kenshi: Plunge It
Distance: Sweep
Button Sequence: Forward, Forward, Back, Back, Y

Kenshi, our favorite blind swordsman, puts his legendary weapon to good use here. Pull off this Fatality to see him plunge his sword through his opponent, pull it back out, slice and dice a couple more times, and then step back so as to avoid the gore of his dismembered enemy.

Li Mei: Rapid Fire
Distance: Sweep
Button Sequence: Forward, Forward, Forward, Forward, X

Li Mei doesn't pull any punches with this Fatality. She'll calmly walk up to her opponent and slam them with a rapid fire sequence of blows (evidently striking many violent pressure points). Then, she'll wisely take a few steps back and watch her enemy convulse violently until they explode into a heap of bits and pieces.

This is just a weird one.

Raiden: Step Back
Distance: Far
Button Sequence: Up, Down, Forward, Forward, X

It's a good thing this Fatality requires you to stand farther away because it's a messy one. Get it right, and you'll see why Raiden is the lord of the thunder. He'll raise his hands to the sky and channel a long stream of lightning into his hapless adversary. Eventually, his enemy's body will be able to contain the voltage no longer and erupt from within.

Sindel: Helicopter Slash
Distance: Sweep
Button Sequence: Up, Up, Back, Forward, A

Sindel plays the part of a blender with this Fatality. She pulls out her bladed pole-arm weapon, knocks her opponent high into the air, and proceeds to whirl her blade above her head like an over-caffeinated drum major. You can imagine the effect on the body as it comes down onto the whirling blade.

Go, Noob! Go, Noob!

Havik: Rip it off and Beat 'Em with It
Distance: Close
Button Sequence: Down, Forward, Forward, Up, B

All Fatalities bear the term ultra-violence with pride, but this one is just downright mean. Perform this Fatality to watch Havik rip off his victim's leg and then proceed to knock off his enemy's head with torn limb.

Tanya: Good Times with a Femur
Distance: Close
Button Sequence: Forward, Down, Down, Down, X

Tanya pushes all subtlety aside with this gem. She plunges her hand into her enemy's thigh and rips out their femur. As they hop around and scream, she walks up and impales them in the neck (presumably to shut them up) with the leg bone.

Noob-Smoke: Shuriken A'Plenty
Distance: Sweep
Button Sequence: Back, Forward, Back, Forward, B

While less bloody than some Fatalities, this one holds it's own with a little flourish. Noob (he performs this Fatality, Smoke performs the other) backs away from his enemy, pulls out a handful of shuriken, and proceeds to sink them from foot to chest into his enemy. With a final handful, he reaches back and imbeds them with a throw into his victim's face.

Liu Kang: Possess Them!
Distance: Sweep
Button Sequence: Forward, Forward, Up, Up, A

This is a bit on the complex side, but here we go. Liu Kang assumes a sort of spirit form and proceeds to fly into his opponent's body. From there, he evidently resumes physical form (still inside the body). His enemy rips off his own head and reveals Liu Kang's head. Get it? Yeah, it's a weird one, but it's fun to watch.

Kira: Off at the Neck
Distance: Sweep
Button Sequence: Up, Forward, Down, Back, A

Kira wastes no time here. Perform this Fatality, and she'll whip out her hand blades, spin, and slice twice at her opponent's neck. Then, a hard well-placed kick to the chest knocks her opponent back, disconnecting their body from their head.

This is going to be messy …

Hotaru: Snap, Snap, Snap
Distance: Close
Button Sequence: Down, Forward, Back, Forward, Y

Hotaru appears to be a man who wants to be sure of the effects of his actions. Perform this Fatality correctly and he'll bring his fellow combatants to their knees, and then snap their neck from behind. Not once, not twice, but three times he'll turn their head fully around, with a sickening crack each time.

Shujinko: It's Effective
Shujinko is an old man by the time you unlock him. He's not about to overexert himself at his advanced age. With his Fatality, he'll pull out two swords and perform an expert simultaneous slice. His opponent's head comes clean off. To add insult to beheading, Shujinko impales both swords into his enemy's shoulders and watches their headless body fall lifeless to the floor. We'll let you figure out how to do this last one yourselves …
