Prima Tips for Lost Odyssey

Published February 11, 2008

Prima Games offers ten key tips for enjoying the journey in Lost Odyssey™. Couple these with the Prima Guide sample page and you'll be well on your way to helping Kaim fulfill his destiny.

Free Healing at Any Save Point

You can heal your entire party for free by using a little trick at save points. After saving, go into the options menu and quit your game to get back to the title screen. When you load your game, you'll find that all of your characters have full HP and MP. There's a save point before nearly every boss, so put them to good use!

Filling Out Kaim's Dream Journal

Most of the 1000 Years of Dreams are in obvious locations, but it can be easy to miss them when multiple dreams appear in the same area. That's because you can't trigger more than one dream each time you visit a location. So to get all three of the dreams in Uhra's tavern, you'll need to enter, trigger a dream by talking to the bartender or one of his patrons, and then leave and re-enter two more times.

Find the 100 Pipot Seeds

The 100 Seeds you'll find on your quest are highly coveted by pot-dwelling Pipots, who will reward you with an exclusive item after every 20 Seeds you hand over. The Seeds have been spaced out so that you'll find a new Pipot each time you collect 20 Seeds, so if you find yourself one Seed short of a prize when you discover a new Pipot (even after searching that area thoroughly), it means you missed a Seed in an earlier area.

Steal the Slot Seed Twice

It isn't usually necessary to steal Slot Seeds from bosses, since bosses with Slot Seeds typically drop them when they're defeated. The Rough Queen in the Black Cave isn't any different, but clever thieves can actually get her Seed twice. The trick is to steal it the first time you fight, and then reduce her to the brink of death without killing her. She'll run away, and if you chase her down again, you can continue the fight. She'll be at the same low-HP state she was when you last saw her, but her Slot Seed will have returned!

Make Every Ring You Can

Check your ring menu often, and make every ring you can until you have one of every type in your inventory. You can't possibly use all the rings you make, but it's important to have one of each ring on hand when you run into the Ringmaker, who can combine multiple rings into a single super-ring with all of the constituent rings' effects. And since you can switch rings for free during battles, it's always handy to have a large selection available.

Looting the Numara Atoll

Early in disc two, the Slantnose ship will allow you to reach an optional area known as the Numara Atoll. Don't let the stunning difficulty of the random encounters discourage you from exploring. While the enemies can kill your entire party with a single spell, they're so slow you can always run away before their first turn (especially if you use the Turn-Tail skill). Stout-hearted and quick-footed treasure-hunters will find two chests in the atoll, which contain the Regenerate spell and a Bronze Spirit Band. Much later in the game, you can return to the Numara Atoll to challenge a very tough optional boss for the "Defeated Holy Beast" achievement.

The Path to Skill Mastery

There are 180 achievement points wrapped up in the "Skill Master" series of achievements, which require a character to learn every skill available to them. For most mortal characters, that just means leveling them up until they learn their final skill, but Tolten is an exception—he has a skill he can only learn by completing a special side quest (one that involves opening each set of Royal Seals). Immortals have it much tougher: they must learn every skill from every mortal (even redundant ones, such as learning every possible level of White Magic), as well as every skill contained within an accessory. You'll find every accessory location in the appendices of the official strategy guide.

The Elusive Thirteenth Dream

The thirteenth dream requires you to be at a very specific place at a very specific time, making it the hardest dream for most players to find. After completing the funeral sequence in Numara, return to Canal Street and walk along the north railing on the fishing bridge that's in the south part of the town. If you've missed it and Canal Street is closed off to you, don't worry—you'll have another opportunity to unlock it during disc four.

Earning Skill Seeds in the Backyard

There are no less than eighteen Slot Seeds to be found in the "Backyard" tournament of Gohtza, which opens late in the game. Only four of the Slot Seeds can be earned from normal victories—to unlock the others you'll need to fulfill a bonus condition during each battle. You'll find hints about these conditions in periodicals (like The Backyard Weekly) that are found in optional dungeons throughout the world of Lost Odyssey. (Of course the conditions are also listed, along with detailed strategies, in the "Bonus Feats" section of the strategy guide.)

A Limited-Time Offer from Dandy the Crow

When you first enter the city of Saman, you'll encounter a talking crow who sells random items for 50G a pop. Dandy's stock is mostly Mana Herbs and Healing Medicines, with a handful of Soul Medicines and Cure-Alls thrown in, but Dandy does have one great find—the Awakening Bracelet, an accessory with a skill that can give a character three extra skill slots. It's a can't-miss item, but it pops up so rarely that you may have to give 50G to Dandy over a hundred times to get it. This is a limited-time offer, and if you don't do it during the second disc, you'll never get another opportunity (you can, however, find other Awakening Bracelets later in the game).
