  • We break down a few LEGO-inspired tips and tricks and highlight a few easy achievements in LEGO Batman: The Videogame.

LEGO® Batman™: The Videogame may be geared towards a younger generation of gamer, but it's still filled with subtle challenge. Sure, you can complete the story line without a great deal of heartache, but to reach one hundred percent completion of the game will take both cunning and skill. A few tips and tricks won't hurt either, so keep the following in mind.

Come Back Later
Like the LEGO games before it, the LEGO Batman levels—hero or villain—are intended to be played again and again in Freeplay Mode. Because of this you'll find all manner of puzzles you can't solve, and areas you're denied access to throughout your Story Mode experience. For example, the LEGO pieces floating in toxic slime in Episode I require villain characters that are only available in Freeplay Mode.

If you can't find a way to solve the puzzle in a minute or two, chances are you need a character, suit, or power not available in the level. Just leave these sections for Freeplay Mode.

Villain Time
Wondering what it's going to take for you to gain access to the villains in LEGO Batman? Not much as it turns out.

You need only complete each chapter from the hero's perspective to unlock the villain's equivalent chapter. Once you've completed the chapter, you can play through the villain levels by visiting Arkham Asylum. Gain access to Arkham by pulling the lever on the right hand side of the Batcave (one level up from the Hero Mission Room).

Destroy Everything
Finding bits and pieces of LEGO parts to remake into a needed piece of equipment is a staple of this gaming franchise. Often though, these bits and pieces are stowed away in some less than obvious places. Trashcans, trees, benches, and other unlikely items can all contain vital LEGO pieces for some contraption necessary to moving on in the level. Make sure to break apart everything you can.

Puzzle Suits and Powers
LEGO Batman follows the decades-long gaming tradition of using newly acquired powers to solve many of the level's puzzles as well as defeat each Episode's boss. Did you just find the Glide Suit? Chances are there's a chasm you'll need to glide over to progress to the next area. See that Demolition Suit next to Clayman at the end of Episode I? Try setting bombs near the piles of treasure he stands on, and see if you don't bring his life meter down a notch or two.

Whatever the puzzle or boss, newly acquired suits and powers normally hold the key to success.

Hold and Be Safe
If you find yourself surrounded by a posse of goons and feeling a touch overwhelmed, try grabbing hold of a nearby enemy with B. Once you do this, any nearby enemies will cease attacking you. This way, you can decide on your next course of action at your leisure.

Achievement Check
There are a great many achievements in LEGO Batman that can be easily earned if only you're aware that they exist. For example, Natural Habitat requires that you eliminate all the street lights in Episode 1, Chapter 1, while Atomic Backbreaker asks that you perform the Backbreaker move on Batman as Bane. Heads I Win, Tails You Lose can only be earned by defeating ten goons and ten police officers as Two Face.

All of these achievements and a great deal more pose little challenge if you're aware of them, so make sure to read carefully through the achievement list from time to time, lest you have to repeat a level unnecessarily.

Superhero Early
With every LEGO stud you collect, your Superhero meter at the top of the screen slowly fills. Once you've filled the meter, it stays full even if you lose every last LEGO stud from that moment on.

Take the extra time early on in each level to fill your Superhero meter as fast as you can. Search out every last breakable object and beat it until you've earned every LEGO stud. Do so and you shouldn't have any problems earning the Be a Hero achievement.

Extras and Suit Upgrades
Collecting the red power bricks in each level unlocks access to various Extras (such as Disguise) and Suit Upgrades (such as increased Batarangs), but you still need to purchase these wonderful toys from the Batcomputer in the Batcave. Also, in the case of Extras, you'll need to head to the Start menu in-game, select the Extras option, and then choose which Extras you want to use.

With the preceding tips and tricks in your utility belt, you should be well on your way to quelling the villain uprising as Batman and Robin, and doling out your own criminal brand of mischief as the game's myriad villains.
