Charge the Net

By OXM Staff

I had the pleasure of playing an early build of this game to write this piece, and I literally couldn’t put the controller down. The gameplay is fast, fun, deep, and rewarding.

Top Spin™ is really looking like the complete tennis experience. To kick things off, you get to use the most advanced player creator. After you create a player (maybe even one that looks just like you!), you start off as a "young gun" in the Minors and make your way through the Pro circuit. Master all the shots—including slices, lobs, drops, spins, and several trick shots—while perfecting your play on various surfaces, including clay, hard court, and grass. Having problems? Don’t fear. There is coaching available that will correct weaknesses to perfect every part of your game. You’ll need the extra help to get through the increasingly tougher A.I. opponents and your arch nemesis, who will rise through the ranks as you do. The training and practice will pay off online.

Perfect your game before you take it online.

The action on the court is intense, with cross-court winners, perfectly placed drop shots, and smashing overhead kills. And you have unprecedented control over the whole experience. Play it safe by volleying baseline to baseline, or step it up with risk shots that’ll win you points in the match and help you “get in the zone.” Land enough world-class shots, and you build momentum that will help your entire game—but the shots are risky and tough to pull off.

After you master the game in your living room, head to XboxLive for the chance to prove you’re the best. Play tournaments, find a partner for doubles matches, join a league, and climb the ladder to the top. And when you win, you can rub it in verbally with the Communicator and have your character perform a variety of taunts.

Whether playing on your own or taking all comers via XboxLive, Top Spin challenges you to take risks, pull off world-class shots, and fight your way through what is possibly the deepest tennis game ever made!
