Operation Sports:

It’s Not Just a Job, It’s an Adventure

By Shawn Drotar, Managing Editor, OperationSports.com

By now you’ve picked up your copy of RalliSport Challenge 2 and experienced the most thrilling racing game the Xbox® has to offer. You’ve been racing against the clock, playing against your friends in Multiplayer Mode, and even taken your game online with Xbox Live®, holding your own against the world’s best players.

So what’s next? It’s time to put all those skills to use in Career mode, where you’ll step into the harness and roll cage of a professional rally racer, and take on every mode, car, and track that RalliSport Challenge 2 has to offer!

There are four levels of competition available in RalliSport Challenge 2’s Career mode: Amateur, Pro, Champion, and Super Rally—the ultimate rally championship. While you can choose from either Amateur, Pro, or Champion initially (Super Rally must be unlocked through play), it’s advisable—and more fun—to start at the Amateur level and work your way up through the ranks. When you highlight “Amateur” in the Career Menu, you’ll immediately notice three things: your points, completed events, and unlocks. Points are what you’re playing for, events are what you’ll win them in, and unlocks are new cars, skins (color schemes and livery for your ride), or tracks that can be used in all the other game modes.

It’s time to hit Career mode.

When you enter your chosen career difficulty, you’ll be looking at the career tree, a handy chart that shows you what you’ve completed, and where you can head next. Each gray box represents an event, which is a series of races on different tracks and conditions. There will also be small icons in the corner of each box to indicate the type of racing involved in the event. Place the cursor over the box for even more information—the name of the event, the track names, and your current standings. When you run each race, you’ll be awarded points based on your standing. Get the most points for the race series (usually between 2-4 races), and you’ve won the event! The formerly gray box will now be filled in with a color to indicate completion, and the points you’ve won will remain in the lower right corner. Oftentimes, you’ll have a choice of which event to race in next. Viewing the tree makes it easy to decide. Some events can only be unlocked by completing a specific event, while others can be unlocked by winning a certain amount of points over the course of your career. You can finish events in any order you choose, including “working backwards” to try events you may have missed. You can even re-enter an event in the hopes of improving your standing, and gaining even more points, but watch out—if you do worse, you’ll actually lose points!

The three main career modes give you remarkable freedom to choose your own career path on the way to the championship. There are 105 events to choose from, with well over 300 races available to run in the three career paths. 190 different items can be unlocked as you progress through these paths, providing plenty of incentive to play RalliSport Challenge 2 “just one more time!” Once you’ve finished off the three career paths, and won all three “licenses” for your efforts, it’s time to race the best of the best in the Super Rally championship. These are 16 of the toughest events the game has to offer, with 36 more prized items to unlock. Complete the Super Rally and you’ll claim your rightful place as one of the best RalliSport Challenge 2 players in the world!

If you’ve just played against the clock, your friends, or even online with Xbox Live, then you’ve barely scratched the surface of this deep and enthralling racer. What are you waiting for—start your Career today!
