ToyotaMatrix Guitar Hero III All-Nighter Recap

Published April 26, 2008

Toyota , Xbox.com, and Peavey hosted a Guitar Hero® III: Legends of Rock All-Nighter April 26-27, and gave away 24 custom-made Peavey® AG Riffmaster™ Guitar Controllers with the All-Nighter artwork right on the axe. Way cool!

Now that's what you need to play GHIII in style.

We got tons of great feedback from gamers around the world. Check it out:

Hi, I'm Roki 117 from Bountiful, Utah. I had the All-Nighter at my place with four friends. And we played from 11 P.M. to 6 A.M. We split in two teams and did the co-op career all night unlocking the songs we didn't have already. I took a bunch of pictures of us rocking out. We tried to dress like rockers, but failed horribly. My friend Yahn 084 got a blister and it popped while he was playing!

Roki 117 is playing so fast we can't keep him in focus.

I didn't get a chance to get pics, however me and my friends played from 8 P.M. to 3 A.M. at my school after prom. I had a challenging battle between me and another classmate on Dragonforce. It was overall a great night and we owe it to Xbox LIVE® and Guitar Hero III.

Totally righteous riffs! I came home from work and hit the DLC list. Popped in some tasty new jams and played until my fingers screamed out "ENOUGH!" I love the All-Nighters, and frankly, I love Xbox LIVE! These All-Nighters give us grown-ups a chance to rock and roll pre-pubescent free!

Well, at about noon on Saturday I decided to put together a costume for the All-Nighter. I thought you'd like to see evidence that I'm pretty passionate about this event …

Now THAT'S how to play an All-Nighter. Thanks, the4v3ry!

I started playing at 6 P.M. (after a short nap from working all day) until about 12-1 A.M. I had a great time until I started to cramp up (hand). I made two new friends and can't wait to do this again. One of the people I met with, we went toe to toe. It came down to the score, so in the end, we decided to team up in co-op. It was a blast.

The biggest coincidence happened during the All-Nighter. My name is Jano Behove, and my gamertag is Janobehove. I'm not sure if you know many people named Jano Behove, but I don't. My neighbor who lived in my old neighborhood moved to Tennessee a few years ago, and my parents and I have been trying to find any way to contact him. We couldn't find any results. I was playing a quick Ranked Match, and it set me up with someone. He had a microphone, so he [asked if I lived in a certain neighborhood]. I said, "What the heck! How the heck would you know where I live?" And he's like, "Is your first name Jano!?" And I said "Why do you know who I am!?!?" And he said "I am Franklin. Remember me?" And I said, "WTF!! Am I being freakin' pranked?! You were like my best friend!" And so now, we are meeting up in a few weeks. People think Xbox is a waste! It reunited me with my childhood friend!

So, I started the night at 8:00 P.M. by purchasing the God of Rock character. Then I noticed I was in the middle of finishing the career mode on Hard. I beat the song "Knights of Cydonia" and thought my chances of beating Guitar Hero III on Hard were pretty high. But then I got a secret achievement called "Blowin' It" and you only get this if you fail the same song 10 times. So I decided to try something new, playing the game on lefty. I got a good ways into the career mode on Easy and the game said "unreadable disc". After cleaning the disc, I decided not to do that again and play something else new, so I decided to play all the songs that you can purchase from the store. It was really fun. I switched off playing with my girlfriend (aceyourcace) and this All-Nighter gave us the chance to see every song that Guitar Hero III has to offer (except the ones you can purchase from Xbox LIVE Marketplace). To finish it off, I played "Through the Fire and Flames" at 2:00 A.M. So, about six hours of non-stop Guitar Hero action! I can't wait until there is another All-Nighter. This was my first one, and it was fun to see how many of my friends online were playing Guitar Hero III as well.

Frayteez ready to rock.

Armed with a Les Paul in one hand, and a Monster Energy drink in the other, I had a great time with the All-Nighter. Playing Pro Face Off with The Decode many times, to finally getting my enlightened guitarist achievement! It's all fun and games, until you run out of batteries! I went through three sets of batteries in this event!

I got a few of my friends together for the Toyota Matrix Xbox Guitar Hero III All-Nighter. We all met up after a Mario Kart tournament we played in until 8 P.M. ET so that left us an hour to get back to my store to get set up to play Guitar Hero III all night. We started at 9 and it's now 5 A.M. ET. I'm still going and my friends are crashed out. I'm going to try to play out the whole thing … wish me luck :) I think the most played song would be "Impulse," I love that song. Well, another hour is up, so I have to go play.

NeoZen666 and friends.

It was an amazing experience. I played from like 5:20 P.M. to 9:00 A.M., it was sweet. When I started, I was just playing career mode trying to get 5 stars on every song on Hard, but I couldn't get it for "One" or "Raining Blood," even though I got, like what, 293,000 for "One." I then decided to bring my skills and tear down in Xbox LIVE, and I played several duels, however I allowed my brother to play and even my Dad, who tried to play on Expert, but he didn't know you had to strum. He was just pressing the buttons, it was hilarious! (After that, my Dad left to play on a real guitar and played some Aerosmith song he liked.)  My brother tried to match the shredding skills of my friends but he couldn't. Since I've already beaten "Through the Fire and Flames," I decided to step up to the challenge and tried to beat "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." This was a complete failure. Me and my brother took turns trying to beat this super hard song. It was pathetic, we tried nearly a thousand times but the closest I ever got to beat it was 72% and my brother 62%. That song is really good, but it contains extremely hard hammer ons. I was disappointed because I've already beaten Jordan in GH2 and the solo is like three times harder. Thank you for listening and the great opportunity.

My son, I nfs skillz I, and his friends, I TEH PWNED I and xXAssasin666Xx, were hittin' the guitars with Guitar Hero III from 8:30 P.M. to right around 6:00 A.M. They were having so much fun playing "Through the Fire and Flames," "Reptilia," "Cherub Rock," "Talk Dirty to Me," and the Halo 3 theme song. I think they must have went through the whole song list, paying very close attention to Dragonforce! We had so much fun and can't wait for the next Rock Band or GH3 All-Nighter!

Even great rock bands have to sack out once in a while.

That was a night of Guitar Hero I won't forget for a while. Man, I was at that for about seven hours. That's definitely something Xbox needs to do again. I didn't stay up until 6:00 but I went as far as I could. I met some people that were really good at GH3. Made a couple friends here and there. I got a couple of blisters on my fingers but I played through it. I had to dunk my fingers a couple times in some ice water. Just disappointed none of my friends wanted to do it with me. Oh well, their loss. They missed a good night. What surprised me was I didn't run into one person that actually knew about the event. None of my friends online knew about it either until I told them. Well I gotta go, so if you ever want to play, just send me a message.

Hello, my name is Braeden. I actually started around 12:30 A.M. April 27 'cause I got off work late. When I got to my friend's house to start the night, I set up my 360 and started warming up before the others showed. We had two TVs, two 360s, and four guitars. I started the night off with "My Name is Jonas", nice song to start off with on Expert. I didn't connect to LIVE for a while, 'cause we had to fix the Internet connection, then I had to recover my account. After we did that, me and my friend ChaoTeck helped me finish co-op. We did three songs, then it ended. ChaoTeck and I then Played Pro Face Off, and he wasted me, haha. I forgot which song came first, but we did "Through the Fire and Flames" last. That was around 2:20 A.M. He ended with that song and headed home 'cause his wife was going to be on his back if he woke her up any later on. I continued on playing by my lonely self on one TV as the other two were playing in the other room. I actually played to the point to where my finger developed a blister and popped while I was playing "Before I Forget" by Slipknot. Rokimbo was happy that I was using my own guitar during that 'cause it got all over the orange button. We didn't have any normal bandages, so I was fine with Spiderman bandages more than Winnie the Pooh. We had fun taking pictures 'cause we hardly hang out like that anymore. I'm just glad we had so much fun during this All-Nighter. Ended the night around 6:30, slept for three hours, and now I'm at work, haha. Thank you for having this and for bringing us together.

YAHN 084 is the one in the hat.

Hello, my name is Jake. I'm writing to tell you how much fun I had with the Guitar Hero III All-Nighter. It was a pleasure participating in the event. I really enjoyed playing against other people late at night to have a chance at winning on what would probably be one of the coolest prizes ever. Even tough I only played seven hours (I had to stop due to the fact that my left wrist was in pain and getting stiff), I still had fun and it was well worth the time that I played. I played my butt off more than I ever did before. It would be EXTREMELY awesome if I were to win one of those 24 rare guitars. I give you so much thanks for the event. It was a job well done! I hope all of you take care and thanks for the All-Nighter that ROCKS!

P.S.  YOU ROCK! Not only because Guitar Hero said so, but you guys DO rock!

This was my first Xbox All-Nighter event and it turned out to be a blast. On Saturday, I went out and bought my copy of Guitar Hero III with the wireless guitar, some drinks, snacks, and I was ready. The day started out slow with me playing through some of single player but around 9:00 that night a good friend of mine, that I met on LIVE over five years ago, joined me for some online play. We tried all of the game modes and I managed to unlock a couple of co-op achievements. Mostly we played on Medium difficulty but I was struggling since I hadn't played Guitar Hero II in a long time. By the end of the night, after playing through every song in the game, I was winning battles only because my opponent was falling asleep at the guitar. He went to bed and I jammed a few more single player songs before crashing out myself. The next day of rocking started early and luckily my online bandmate was up early as well, and we spent most of the day playing on LIVE. I am really glad I decided to participate in this Xbox All-Nighter. I enjoyed Guitar Hero III and plan to do this again.
