Xbox Live Arcade

TriXie recently copped to an Xbox Live® Arcade addiction, so we asked the Xbox® community to take that first step and admit they have a problem too. Here's what some of them had to say:

"I would have to say I am addicted to four absolutely great arcade titles: Bejeweled, Hexic® HD, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved (even though I'm not very good at it), and Outpost Kaloki X have kept me busy for hours on end. I got so into Outpost Kaloki that I completely lost track of time multiple times. My brother (gamertag *TATEone*) and I used to play Bejeweled on the computer against each other, so now it's a competition to see who can unlock the achievements first. Needless to say they sure didn't make these easy to get. I'm sure the brotherly rivalry will continue with many other Arcade games that come out. "

"I am NOT going to calm down until someone
explains to me how to play Geometry Wars and
why it is that my three-year old gets it and I don't."

"I had Bejeweled 2 on my PDA and would play it during … er, I mean between classes (grad school can be way boring at times). After sitting out all night with my son to get Xbox 360™, we rushed home and immediately played … the free download of pool. That was only the beginning, though. A cute little game name Hexic caught my eye andI decided to check it out.

"That was the start of my downfall. That game rocks, and I was the Hexic goddess! No one could surpass my scores. Every day before I played, I would check and make sure I was on the top of the leader boards of my friends. One day someone on my friends list surpassed me. Darn that Shadow Siren! No problem, I can take her.

"So, I worked hard and kept my scores up, then FeistyFox passed me up! Feisty, my fellow Dominating Diva! I never knew she was so cold and calculating. But then big trouble showed up with the name Nataku ofDoom. Natuku was my late night Rainbow Six 3 friend from many years back, how could he do this to me … all those long nights of owning noobs and now he passes me on my beloved Hexic. Whatever, not for long, pretty soon I will be owning his noob … *never mind.*

"Zuma is safe for now, I am currently ruling at this game. My son, AvatarZ, played a few games and couldn't make it past the first level. I snicker and whisper, 'Zuma' whenever he surpasses me in any FPS game.

"Now Hardwood Backgammon … this simple two-player game steals hours of my time. I play with people all over the world without ever speaking to them. My most recent rival on this game is Grossvader1, though I doubt he knows he is my rival. I had the voice turned to the speakers and I could hear him say something to someone (in German) every time I made a move and I knew he was laughing at me and mocking me. He stole a whole Saturday of my time—I missed a Christmas party and everything! Game after game of tricky Backgammon!

"As of now I don't think anyone besides Nataku realizes they are my rivals. Thanks for the mocking messages Nataku I will take back the top! But just having the goal of crushing all my friends on the leaderboards makes the game even more fun.

"So TriXie, I would be honored to be on your friends list so I can … ownyour noob ass too!"

"I am addicted not only to playing all the games, but also the action of downloading a new game onto the Xbox 360 console … Microsoft Points are a brilliant way of transforming real money into credits for me to blow on Arcade games! I love Bankshot Billiards 2™ and after seeing some movies of Marble Blast Ultra I know I will very soon be addicted to that also. The billiards game has me addicted mostly for the achievements right now."

"I love to play Geometry Wars and Hexic. I have like a 300,000 score in Geometry Wars and I was number one on my friend list. A week or so later, my friend from school, DeathBuddy, suddenly came up with this 650,000+ score and it absolutely devastated me. Ever since, I've been working harder and harder to try and get my score up to par with his.

"TriXie, I've been watching your achievements in Hexic and I'm really determined to get that darn Black Pearl before you! We should make a bet on who can do it first just for fun!"
ThePiemaster

"I get no or very little sleep because since the release of the Xbox 360 I have been hooked on Hexic and Geometry Wars. I may not be too good but that's the problem—I play and play and play but I get nothing to show for it!"

CaptianDean

"I absolutely love Hexic but I was wondering if Microsoft is going to bring out Tetris for the arcade."

Revolver 62

"Maybe everyone loves Halo® 2, Project Gotham Racing® 3, and other great brand-new series, but I don't know why or how, Xbox Live Arcade is the most addictive thing about Xbox 360. For me, the best part of the Live Arcade games is:

  • Quick game: You don't have to disconnect your life to enjoy and if you need to go, you can do it without wait for the next save point.
  • Achievements: The best way to show a person who's the boss.
  • Ease of use: You don't need to be a hardcore gamer to enjoy it.
  • Memories: Keep those old consoles in the closet! Enjoy the new re-mastered versions of those great classic games!

"For me, Xbox Live Arcade rocks!"

AcdBulls

"I am obsessed with beating the 'Endless' mode in Bejeweled 2 ( I try to play at least two levels each day), and hope to be the first to do it because (based on the leader boards) it seems most people give up on the 280 level feat. I'm also poised to keep ahead of MatrixArchitect."

MVP Red Phoenix

"My wife is obsessed with beating TriXie's scores."

"I have been really impressed with what I have seen of the Xbox Live Arcade service so far, and I think that it has a lot of potential. It is really user-friendly accessing the games, and the download time doesn't take long at all. It's an innovative way in reaching out not just to retro gamers, but something to broaden the appeal of the console.

"They are a great introduction to Xbox 360 as well—if you have a room of people they aren't going to be able to jump straight into an FPS or racing game easily. The Arcade games are easy to play, very addictive, and anybody can play them. My first experience on Xbox 360 was with Hexic HD and that is great fun, I am familiar with the game from Messenger and it's just as addictive on the console. It's easy to get into and the achievements aren't too challenging (even though a few still remain beyond my reach). The other game I have really got into is Wik: The Fable of Souls. I have had a lot of fun playing both of these games, and I am looking forward to downloading and playing many more."

Shreddies

"I absolutely love Hexic.I've always been fond of puzzles so this game is perfect for me. I am not only competing against myself to try to better my scores and my times but I am also trying to stay ahead of neda. I was so excited the other night when I made my first black pearl! Now, of course, my goal is to make a pearl cluster."

Catalina PMS

"I do not think that I am addicted to Xbox Live arcade on Xbox 360, but my wife and my shrink both seem to think that I am:

  • I MUST be the first one to score on the Cognito leader board in Bejeweled 2, and it does not matter that I have failed for what seems like the hundredth time now; this is why they invented stuff like Red Bull.
  • There MUST be a way to get a pearl in Hexic but I am apparently just too dumb to figure that one out and cannot seem to do anything else but collapse my stars together. It almost doesn't hurt anymore and I do not cry as much as I used to …
  • There is NO way that I will let you play Zuma under my gamertag, honey—what if you were to get the achievement before I did?
  • MUST … BEAT … CATALINA PMS … DIRTYDIVA … AND TRIXIE360 … SCORES … FORGET … SLEEP …
  • I am NOT going to calm down until someone explains me how to play Geometry Wars and why it is that my three year old gets it and I don't.
  • What do you mean it is a shame I have all these shiny new games under wrapping and I am stuck playing Joust—that's not an issue, is it?
  • Is it so wrong to get a new gamertag just because I do not want people to see my actual Arcade scores just yet?"
