Big and Little Fishes

At A Glance
  • Fish for big fun with Feeding Frenzy on Xbox Live Arcade.

It's a fish-eat-fish world, and this Xbox Live® Arcade download by Sprout Games takes you into the ocean depths where survival is the name of the game. Feeding Frenzy™ appeals to all ages, but has a particular draw for younger children. The brightly colored fish and ease of control make this game ideal for entertaining and educating young gamers.

One Little Fishy
In Feeding Frenzy, you're Andy, a little angel fish. You live in a protected bay called Angel Reefs. And, you're very hungry. You can only eat fish that are smaller than you, and there's every likelihood that you'll get eaten by a fish that's bigger than you.

Play consists of eating smaller fish while avoiding the bigger ones, and gathering special power-ups along the way. As you eat, you grow. As you get bigger, you eat bigger fish and stray further out into the ocean depths. Unfortunately, as you do, you also draw the attention of even bigger predators.

Designed for one player, with as many cheering spectators as can fit into your living room, Feeding Frenzy has all the elements of good, casual fun. The sessions don't last too long. They start out easy and gradually get more difficult. When you've used up all your lives, you choose which phase of the game you want to play next, so if one portion proves too difficult, you go back to an earlier one for more practice.

In addition to the natural predators, keep an
eye out for unnatural ones like explosive
mines and radioactive minnows.

Two Little Fishies
The game offers two different modes of the play. Start a "New Game" to begin your underwater adventure from the very first level. Complete each level to unlock the next one. In this way, you progress in logical order through the maps, exploring the ocean as you move further from the safety of the reef and deeper into the big, wondrous sea.

Play through different types of rounds, eating and growing, each with its own special challenge. Some present you with special difficulties to overcome or unusual predators added to the standard ones. Some give you a particular mission to accomplish.

In the second mode, Time Attack mode, the game pits you against the clock. You have unlimited lives, but a limited time to accomplish your mission. That mission most likely involves eating all the fish in the area. Strange predators attempt to hinder your success, and traps hold you back by either closing on you (oysters) or paralyzing you for a short time (jellyfish). In addition to the natural predators, keep an eye out for unnatural ones like explosive mines and radioactive minnows.

Many Little Fishies
This game has a population of many wonderful creatures, from jellyfish to sharks. They all have their own unique personalities that show through in how they move and the silly sounds they make as they eat. As you move between levels, the game offers information about the fish and gives more than four dozen real-world facts on an array of species. The game is an excellent diving board for learning more about sea creatures.

The animations of the fish are delightful and entertaining, caricatured with humor and style. The Xbox Live Arcade version of the game has been digitally enhanced to take advantage of HDTV graphics capability. Only on Xbox 360™ do you see the truly colorful beauty of this game.

Sprout Games first introduced Feeding Frenzy as a downloadable PC game in 2004. Millions of people downloaded the game and made it Sprout Games' first big hit. Due to its popularity, Sprout Games has since made it available as a coin-op arcade machine, a cell-phone download, and an Xbox Live Arcade game. Its combination of fantasy and fact keeps everyone entertained and informed.
