Hacking the Matrix

By Carlson

One of the interesting things about Enter The Matrix is the inclusion of the Hacking feature. It’s one of those things that you see on the list of options and wonder: “What the devil does that do?” It was a cool idea and is an interesting way to include all those little goodies and extras that people want to see in the game. It includes everything from some cool sound bites and art bits to the various full-motion video clips used in the game. After all, since there is so much of the stuff, and it all parallels The Matrix Reloaded, it’s something that I’m sure a lot of folks would like to be able to go through and watch again. It also houses the cheat system and some really cool Easter Eggs that I doubt anyone was expecting. (Can you say multiplayer?) So, read on my friends because you never know just how deep the rabbit hole goes!

The hacking interface itself is a fun little green and black terminal interface. It takes me back to the good old days, back before there was such a thing as a GUI (Graphic User Interface) or a mouse. Don’t sweat it though. After you have entered a command once, the executable will be stored for you, so that you can just select it from the list, instead of typing the whole darn thing in. Yay! Let’s hear it for convenience.

When you first begin to access the Hacking system, you will have very few commands available to you. Use the DIR command to explore the drive that you have access to as well as its sub folders. Once you have found all of the files in the A: drive, you will need to LOGIN to the system to progress further. You can login as a Guest, or as FREEMIND. This will allow you access to the next drive. You will want to explore the B: drive just like you did the A: drive. When you come to the B:\TOOLS sub directory, it will tell you that the password is a five-digit binary number. This number is different on every game, so I can’t tell you what it is. A binary number is a number made up of only 0s and 1s (01010 for example), so all you need to do is run through all of the various combinations to find the password. In that folder, you will find some of the commands that you probably really wanted.

I won’t walk you through the entire Hacking system, since that would take all the fun out of it. What I’ve given you here should be more than enough to get you started. There is one command that I think should be mentioned though. After you find the CHEAT command, you can unlock the multiplayer fighting mode with the code D5C55D1E. After you enter it successfully, use the EXIT command to exit the Hacking system. When it asks you if you want to save your game, say yes. Back at the main menu, select Load Game, and then the game that you’re hacking was done on. The next menu will display a list of levels for you to select from, as usual. If you scroll left, using the D-pad, you can go back through your previous levels. Past the very first level is now a list of Multiplayer arenas. Make sure you have a second controller plugged in, and then rock and roll!

<NOTE FROM SHINY: TO ACCESS ANY PART OF THE HACKING SYSTEM, THE PLAYER MUST FIRST HAVE A REGULAR SAVED GAME.>
