At A Glance
  • The classic FPS DOOM is now available for download.

In 1993 the Union Aerospace Corporation sent a group of marines to Mars to find out why all contact with the UAC personnel stationed there had ceased. What they found was a unspeakable invasion that threatened not only their lives, but their very souls. DOOM® was coming.

DOOM was originally shareware, and in an era when less than 10 percent of American households had an internet connection, millions of players downloaded DOOM in its first couple of years. It became one of the most loved and played video games in history. It has also served as a model for every first person shooter title since.

DOOM gradually made its way onto consoles, and was reincarnated several times for the PC. The sequels and remakes have continued to thrill players for more than a decade. Now this classic is available for download on Xbox 360™. Discover the game for the first time, or discover it again today on Xbox Live®.

The Doorway to Hell
DOOM is set in a science fiction world of the future, and it is still easy to see its influence on the FPS games of today. You fight your way through dark and scary levels, traveling from a moonbase to the depths of Hell itself, killing every mutant and demon you encounter on the way.

This shot should be easy.

Your employer, Union Aerospace Corporation, has been performing experiments with teleporters, moving people through space between Phobos and Deimos, the two moons of Mars. But something has gone horribly wrong. Evil creatures have begun to pour through the teleporter on Phobos. Contact with this outpost has been cut off, and it's up to you to find out what's going on.

Simple Single-player
Gameplay in DOOM is uncomplicated, but that doesn't detract from its intensity. The standard FPS controls apply: Move with the left stick and rotate the direction you face with the right. Fire with the trigger of your choice. Trigger actions like opening doors with the A button, and use any of the other buttons to rotate through your armaments.

Collect more impressive weapons and power-ups as you progress. Look for secret panels or hidden rooms to gain better weapons and more health. Expect for ammo to become more scarce as you progress into the game, so start planning ahead.

Split-screen Deathmatch means every man for himself.

Multiplayer Deathmatch
DOOM has several multiplayer modes for you and your friends to enjoy. For the first time, play co-op and watch each other's backs. Take on the game at a higher difficulty than you could solo. The game will unfold the same, but your strategies may change quite a bit.  You can play co-op mode both in split screen at home, or with other players via Xbox Live. Watch for friendly fire, though!

If you prefer your action head to head, select Deathmatch mode. Again, you can play at home with friends on a split screen, or you can hop onto Xbox Live to play against players from all over the world, just like you do in any other FPS title.

This incarnation of DOOM on Xbox Live Arcade will take many people back to the old days when there were no FPS games, there was only DOOM and its clones. This is a great opportunity to introduce rookies to the old school action, and an even better time to go back to your roots with this classic title. Doomguy was born ready. What about you?
