Put your goggles on, fasten your seatbelt, and call in sick to work, there's gonna be a new downloadable map for Crimson Skies®: High Road to Revenge™.
If you've been waiting for a map that involves a little more thought and a lot more strategy, look no further. The Caverns is by far the most strategically oriented map designed for Crimson Skies. Here are a couple of pointers for the cool kids.
The Caverns is a big map, so when you first enter you might feel a little intimidated. Just remember that the map is comprised of two big caves connected by two pathways at one end and a treacherous shortcut path in the middle. If you have problems finding the tunnels, look for the giant statues.
Use the terrain to your advantage. Weave in and out of the columns, stalagmites, and stalactites to peel pursuers off your tail.
Teamwork is a must if you want to win the big games, so play nice.
Flag Heist/Wild Chicken: This is where this map really shines, but if you become disoriented or separated from your teammates, you're as good as dead.
Defense:
Every tunnel leads to a choke point right before each cave. Make sure you have at least one person guarding those choke points and hosing down any would-be heroes passing through.
Near the center of each cave are two AA guns sitting side-by-side guarding the main entrances into the cave. Those have an especially good vantage point on the shortcut tunnel entrance. Get teammates into those AA guns and concentrate your fire on one enemy at a time.
Don't let the bad guys get the flag or score with the chicken … you'd be surprised at how many people mess up this part of their defense.
Offense:
Use the shortcut through the mouth of the statue head to sneak into the enemy's area. When entering their cave, head down and fly low over the water and ground—there's more cover down there. More cover means less death.
Stay together and provide support. If you try to fly into the enemy base alone your chance of survival is pretty slim. Gather one or two friends, designate one to grab the flag/chicken, and keep the others close for support.
The halfway point in the tunnels is a good place to pick up some extra Health and wait for your teammates to catch up for the final push.
Keep Away/Team Keep Away:
Grab the booty and stay in the tunnels. With more cover and the amount of Health scattered everywhere, this is a much safer place to be in than the large caverns.
Keep moving and pick up those repair pods! If you pick your path just right, you'll be able to stay alive for quite a long time.
Dogfight/Team Dogfight:
If you're on the business end of a dogfight, get something in between you and your assailant: rock formations, statues, or another plane—it doesn't matter.
Shoot other players … a lot. Unless you're playing team dogfight. If you're playing team dogfight, don't shoot everybody. Just shoot the bad guys. Trust me on this.
See you on Xbox LIVE® … just don’t shoot at me.
