What's the Story?

The year is 1937. The United States has shattered under the weight of the Great Depression, regional Prohibition, and mounting isolationism. The transcontinental railroad and the budding highway system have become useless as they now cross hostile borders. Commerce and trade leave the ground as air travel—once a national obsession—now becomes a vital lifeline connecting allied countries. Giant Zeppelins crisscross the skies, carrying both passengers and cargo. It is a time of gunship diplomacy and airship piracy. It is the age of the fighter pilot and a time of daredevil adventure and sinister intrigue. It is the world of Crimson Skies…

You play Nathan Zachary, swashbuckler of the air and leader of the air pirate group known as The Fortune Hunters. Your base of operations is a Zeppelin known as the Pandora. Moving from one daring, high-risk raid to another, the Fortune Hunters have earned themselves a sort of Robin Hood reputation, as they target fat-cat operations only and never harass innocent civilians.

All this changes when Nathan gets an emergency call from his partner Betty, one of the Fortune Hunters. He flies to her location only to find her missing and their old friend, Doc Fassenbeinder, dead. Doc had been working on plans for a new fuel injector system for a "rocket plane," and these have been stolen. Nathan must now recover the plans, save his partner, solve the mystery of his friend's death, and of course, get revenge. The plot quickly gets sticky with betrayals, capture, and even the hijacking of Nathan's own plane: The Devastator.

With over 20 missions in the game overall, this story has just begun.
