Shock and Awe in The Ditch

By Furry Sensei

The Ditch in Conker™: Live and Reloaded is a sprawling, multi-level arena separating the Tediz and SHC Squirrel bases. The underground level connects the bases with a bridge, the center of which holds four upgrade spheres and the key objective of the mission: the flag. The object is to snatch the flag and carry it to one of the four towers surrounding The Ditch, thereby capturing the tower. The team with the most tower captures at the end of the match wins.

The "Shock and Awe" Aerial Campaign
Sky Jockeys can be used to devastating effect in The Ditch, because there is precious little cover from an overhead assault.

At the beginning of the map, immediately pilot a Mule 52 bomber over the enemy's Mobile Unit station and bomb it back to the Stone Age. This should destroy the Mobile Unit station and the enemy's Specialist Ordnance station in short order. Because this location is a central, high-traffic area for enemy troop movement, you can probably rack up quite a few C.P.'s in enemy kills as well—at least until the enemy starts focusing on taking out your bombers. If possible, get a buddy to pilot a Steed to back up your bombing runs, and distract enemy Demolishers and anyone else targeting your vehicles by strafing them with rockets.

Generally, you don't need to worry too much about bringing along a gunner or other troops. Just get into the Mule 52 as soon as possible and begin the assault. Odds are good that you can bring down the enemy Mobile Unit Station very quickly, even if you get blasted out of the sky in the process. (That's why it's good to have another Mule 52 and/or a Steed to back you up).

Once the initial damage is done, keep up the assault to back up your ground troops. Continue the rain of bombs and rockets to lock down the enemy as much as possible, but be careful not to bomb your own troops! With the enemy busy fending off your bombing campaign, your ground troops should have time to capture objectives.

Mine these platforms for @#$!s and giggles.

Another Sneaky Trick
This tactic is more fun than it is useful. Did you know that you can pilot a Steed outside The Ditch, down, and into the flag chamber? There are four tunnels leading into the flag chamber that are only accessible by a Steed. Carefully fly a steed through the tunnel and into the flag chamber. From the mouth of the tunnel, you can fire rockets all over the chamber, but you're a pretty easy target because you have little room for maneuvering.

Defending The Ditch
At the beginning of the match, quickly get an Earthguard turret placed in the flag chamber, and have someone else place mines as well. In addition, erect Skyguard turrets to help defend against enemy aerial assaults. The outer rim of The Ditch is generally a good place for Skyguard turrets. If time allows, you can also place mines in the objective towers—a sinister and satisfying frag when it works. Few things are more fun than snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.
