Downtown Assault

So you've reached the final third of the Russian campaign in Call of Duty® 2 at long last. Take up arms, comrade, and fight with all the courage you can muster to repel the evil Hun invaders from Mother Russia. Your mission here is threefold, so pay attention to the tasks at hand and step lively onto the battlefield. Without you, we will most certainly fail.

Objectives
Your three main objectives are:

1. Eliminate the Nazi troops.
2. Destroy the Panzer tanks roaming the street.
3. Make your way to City Hall.

Starting Off
You don't have much time to catch your breath at the start of the mission as enemy troops creep in and assault your position. Mow down all troops in the vicinity (they hide behind the wrecked shell of a bus near the corner) and pick up any automatic weapons you find. To the left is a bombed-out building with a few troops in your way. Clear it out.

A Panzer tank crashes your party and makes your life a living hell. You're not powerless against the iron brute; there's a pack of explosives located inside the building you can employ to take it out. Locate the sticky bombs and return to the street fight. Drop a smoker in the street to cloak your approach and plant the charges on the tank. Hightail it back into the building and watch the fireworks display from a safe distance. Once the zone is clear, proceed onward.

Clearing the Buildings
As you move through each building, you encounter stiff resistance from German troops. Take cover and pick off your targets. Keep an ear open for the signature "tink" of a potato masher—if one lands at your feet it's time to get the hell outta there!

Once the coast is clear, drop from the second story and roam the street. You run into a bunch of Nazis down the street. Man the MG 42 and cut them to shreds or toss a smoker and rush their position. Rid the area of every last one and move on.

Blast the Last Tank
Make your way through the buildings and down the street, neutralizing every pocket of soldiers. You eventually end up in a large, open area. In the center are the remains of a building foundation. Scattered Nazi troops stream in steadily from all corners while a Panzer patrols the block.

Hide behind cover and pick off enemy soldiers. When the coast is clear, wait for the tank to stop moving, toss a smoker, rush up to the tank, and plant a sticky bomb. Beware of the tank's cannon—one solid hit from the mighty gun ends your life.

Don't be surprised if you bite the bullet more than once—this last segment is quite difficult. If you die, simply rethink your strategy and try again. Don't waste your smoke grenades; save them for the right moment—you need at least one to take out the tank. Once the treaded monster is reduced to a burning husk, it's time to head towards City Hall for another intense fight.
