Trixie360 Interviews Deejay Knight

Published November 7, 2008

He runs the website GAMINGtruth.com, and loves the magic sounds of Stevie Wonder. Say hello to Deejay Knight.

trixie360: What's the story behind your Gamertag?

Deejay Knight: Well, DJ has been a nickname of mine since I was a kid. I picked up "Knight" in eighth grade, because I was a big fan of medieval knights. Not to mention that I'm a big fan of Batman!

trixie360: Where do you live?

Deejay Knight: Currently I live in South Korea. My wife is in the Army, and we're stationed here for the time being. I'm natively from Chicago. (Go BEARS!)

trixie360: What do you do for work/school?

Deejay Knight: I'm a freelance web designer, as well as the founder and Editor-In-Chief of GAMINGtruth.com. Needless to say, I spend a lot of time following gaming!

trixie360: What's the worst or weirdest job you've ever had?

Deejay Knight: The weirdest job I've had was Loss Prevention at Best Buy. Greeting the customers as they come in, then following them through the store with cameras to make sure they weren't stealing felt very weird to me!

trixie360: How long have you been on Xbox LIVE®?

Deejay Knight: I've been on board with the Xbox brand and Xbox LIVE since the day they launched! I can still remember waiting for five or so hours inside a mall just to be one of the first to have the original Xbox. I was in the Air Force at the time. I was kind of a Halo® nut, so I took my Xbox and Halo overseas with me on a tour. It made the trip MUCH better!

Deejay Knight has been an Xbox guy since the launch of Halo.

trixie360: Do you have an archenemy on Xbox LIVE?

Deejay Knight: If I had an archenemy, it would be zuffdaddy. No matter what game we play, he finds some way to ruin my kill streaks!

trixie360: What's your Xbox setup like?

Deejay Knight: I wish it was better, but I have a 27-inch TV with factory speakers. I still haven't hooked up the surround sound set I have in the closet, though. It'd only have to come down soon anyways.

trixie360: What's the best feature of Xbox LIVE?

Deejay Knight: I think the best feature of Xbox LIVE is chat. Being able to keep in touch with friends from home while I'm so far from home is great. Keeping in touch while fragging people online is even better!

trixie360: What is your favorite Xbox LIVE game?

Deejay Knight: Wow, do I have to pick only one?! Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® Chaos Theory™ was great, Call of Duty® 4: Modern Warfare™, Halo 3, and Rock Band™ are some favorites that come to mind!

Deejay Knight 's fave Chaos Theory is available as an Xbox Original.

trixie360: What is your favorite offline Xbox game?

Deejay Knight: Mass Effect™, bar none. BioWare rocks, and that game rocked harder than I thought possible.

trixie360: What do you think is the best game of all time?

Deejay Knight: Talk about a doozy of a question! I have to go with PAC-MAN. It's easy enough for a child to play, but difficult enough that it requires a bit more strategy as you get deeper into the game. People have been playing it for decades, so that says tons to me!

trixie360: What do you think is the best film of all time?

Deejay Knight: That's gotta be Independence Day. Sure, there were a lot of cheesy lines in there, but I could watch that movie over and over again. Come to think of it, I already have.

trixie360: "Oh you did NOT just shoot that green $*&% at me!" What do you think is the best album of all time?

Deejay Knight: Best album of all time for me is a three-way tie: Stevie Wonder's Talking Book, Songs in the Key of Life, and Hotter Than July. Sure, all those albums were released before I was born, but you can pop those in at any time and listen the whole way through. That's pretty rare.

trixie360: I loves me some Stevie. What's the funniest thing you've ever heard on Xbox LIVE?

Deejay Knight: That would have to be a night with a couple of friends of mine, Dimmett and zuffdaddy. We were playing a game of Halo 2 and some kid came into the game yelling, throwing out slurs left and right—just killing the vibe. Well, we started singing his name to each other, making fun of his insults. He quit not too long afterward, but we still laugh about it to this day.

The new PAC-MAN Championship Edition adds even more depth to a great game.

trixie360: What is your greatest Xbox LIVE moment?

Deejay Knight: My greatest moment had to be playing Gears of War®. There was a night that I was so on fire, I chainsawed my way through the whole Locust team for two rounds straight. Two of them had to team up to try and kill me, but my teammates took them out before they could finish me off. It was magical.

trixie360: What's your favorite TV show?

Deejay Knight: That would be Heroes. I know, I know, everyone watches Heroes, but the idea of superpowers hidden within people holds a lot of weight with me, especially after reading so many comics growing up! Before that, it was Jericho—an awesome show if you weren't aware.

trixie360: If they made a movie about your life, who should play you?

Deejay Knight: I'll be playing me, thank you very much! There's no one in Hollywood with a face like mine. Though I would be willing to consider letting Lester "Mighty Rasta" Speight do it. He was Terry Tate and the Cole Train, for goodness' sake! I'd be honored if the director considered him before ultimately picking me!

His favorite TV show, Heroes, is available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

trixie360: What cartoon character do you think is most like you?

Deejay Knight: I'd have to say a combo of Dexter from Dexter's Lab and Samurai Jack. I've been lucky to accomplish whatever I put my mind to, but I'm also a badass. (Can you print badass? I hope so!)

trixie360: I can do whatever I want! ;) What superpower would you like to have?

Deejay Knight: Healing powers like Wolverine. I'd be near indestructible, and would look twenty in my late sixties or seventies. Besides, I could even get adamantium claws!

trixie360: If you could trade places with anyone for one day, who would it be?

Deejay Knight: The Donald. Then I would write a check to myself for millions!

trixie360: What celebrity would be the worst roommate?

Deejay Knight: Amy Winehouse. She openly admitted to denying rehab, and I like my stuff, thankyouverymuch.

trixie360: Hot celeb you'd like to be stranded on a desert island with?

Deejay Knight: My wife! Any other answer will result in my being stranded on a deserted couch.

trixie360: If you could be any video game character, who would it be?

Deejay Knight: The Cole Train, baby! Arms bigger than my head, a great suit of armor, and a machine gun that has a chainsaw on it?! Sign me UP!

Who doesn't want to have the powers of Wolverine?

trixie360: What's the worst food you've ever eaten?

Deejay Knight: Liver. It tastes like you'd expect old socks to taste.

trixie360: What's the last book you read?

Deejay Knight: Brother Odd by Dean Koontz.

trixie360: If you could go on tour with any band, which would it be?

Deejay Knight: N.E.R.D. They'd be pretty cool to hang out with, and I'd get a few fashion tips on the way!

trixie360: What do you predict will be the "next big thing" in gaming?

Deejay Knight: I think the next big thing in gaming will be cross-platform gaming. I like the idea of gaming on the console, then playing mini-games on your phone, and playing another game on the Web that all tie in to the same character. How awesome would THAT be?!

trixie360: What do you think is the best thing about Xbox 360®?

Deejay Knight: The best thing about it is the community. I love being able to hop into a game with a friend, chat with someone while playing different games, or even compare Achievements and offer or receive help on how to get them. It's all tied together, and will be even more so when the NXE launches.

trixie360: What is the Xbox 360 Achievement that was hardest to get?

Deejay Knight: Insane Difficulty achievements in Gears of War. I still need to complete the last two acts, but they're not easy at ALL!

trixie360: What would you like to be doing in ten years?

Deejay Knight: Either running a gaming shop or being an executive at a game development house. I've already worked in the gaming industry as an interface designer, so I know a bit about what goes into a title. I respect developers quite a bit more after that experience!
