New Xbox Experience FAQs: Avatars

Avatars are one of the most noticeable features of the New Xbox Experience. Your Avatar is your game face throughout the New Xbox Experience and represents your personality, whether you are serving as an Xbox LIVE Party host, playing a game, or chatting with a friend.

Q: Do I have to use an Avatar?

A: You have to select one to use on Xbox LIVE, yes. How much time you spend tweaking its features and dressing it up is optional.

Avatar Lineup.

Q: What about all the bazillions of Microsoft Points I spent on gamer pictures over the past three years? What happens to that?

A: Don't worry, you can still use your gamer pictures. Having an Avatar isn't optional, but making it your gamer picture is completely up to you.

Q: How do I make my Avatar my gamer picture?

A: When you're in the Avatar creation/customization screen select Gamer Picture and you can take a snapshot of your Avatar for use as your gamer picture. Zoom in or out, wait for a funny expression and even change the background color.

Avatar Editor.

Q: Can I use my Avatar on my Facebook page or on Twitter?

A: Of course—it's easy! You can find three versions of your Avatar on the Interwebz. Check it out:

To make your Avatar your Facebook profile pic:

  1. Go to the URL above for Avatar Body. Put in your gamertag where you see <gamertag>. Put in trixie360, not <trixie360>.
  2. Right-click on your avatar and select Save Picture As
  3. Facebook won't allow you to upload a .png file, you will need to convert it to a .jpg or another file type. A fairly simple way to do this is to open the .png in MS Paint and save it as a .jpg

To make your Avatar your Twitter or LIVE Messenger picture:

  1. Go to the URL above for Avatar Gamerpic (large). Put in your gamertag where you see <gamertag>.  Put in trixie360, not <trixie360>.
  2. Right-click on your avatar and select Save Picture As
  3. Since many sites won’t allow you to upload a .png file, you will need to convert it to a .jpg or another file type. A fairly simple way to do this is to open the .png in MS Paint and save it as a .jpg

Q: How do I make my Avatar belch?

A: Feed it a lot of soda. Or hold down the thumbstick and let 'er rip!
