This Week in Xbox

This Week in Xbox: Nov. 5-12, 2008

At A Glance
  • Denny Atkin takes a look at this week in Xbox news.

Okay, I'm not bragging at all, but my Insider Moves co-host Ryan and I have about the best jobs in the world this side of being a quality control taster at a brewery. Case in point: As I write this, we've been playing Gears of War® 2 for a week already, so that we can prep a good series of tips for this Saturday's episode of our tips show on Inside Xbox. (The moral of the story: Stay in school, kids!)

Gears of War 2
I have to say, Gears of War 2 is everything you could want from a sequel. It has everything that made the first game great, but it takes it all to the next level. Add in meat shields, finishing moves, huge and unique environments, bigger Locust hordes, a little bit more color, and beefed-up multiplayer, and you have a sequel that never disappoints fans of the original, and makes the experience even more mindblowing for experienced Gears players and noobs alike. If you buy only one more game this year …

Gears of War 2 is bigger, badder, and longer, but maintains everything that made the first game awesome.

New Releases
Well, if you buy only one more game this year, you're seriously missing out. This week also brought us Quantum of Solace, which is so good you'll forget it's a movie game, as well as the awesome voice-controlled Tom Clancy's EndWar™, Legendary™, and, for the kids, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa™ Video Game. And who among us are finished with both Fable® II and Fallout® 3?

With voice control, Tom Clancy's EndWar is one of the most innovative games this year.

Vigilante 8: Arcade
Between Gears of War 2 and my continued questing in Albion, I still haven't had a chance to hit up Xbox LIVE® Arcade, which launches Vigilante 8: Arcade®, the car combat game, this week. It's really starting to irk me that I have to spend five or six hours a night unconscious when I could be gaming.

Vigilante 8: Arcade is sure to appeal to all the Interstate 76 fans in the crowd.

New Xbox Experience
Pretty soon you're going to have something else fun to play with as well, and it won't cost you a penny (short of whatever you're paying for Internet bandwidth). The New Xbox Experience is just two weeks away as I write this. Of course, NXE brings avatars, and it's a blast to see how your friends choose to recreate themselves. But there's so much more that's cool: Parties to make joining games with friends on LIVE much easier, Netflix movie streaming, the quiet hum of your Xbox 360® as you play a game that's been installed to the hard disk, the pop-up guide that makes finding downloads for your favorite games a snap, and more.

NXE is coming to your LIVE-connected Xbox 360 on November 19.

Wrapping Up
That's it for this week! In between games, please drop by the Insider Moves topic and let us know what you'd like to see in future episodes.
