This Week in Xbox: Oct. 29-Nov. 5, 2008
At A Glance
- Denny Atkin takes a look at this week in Xbox news.
All's not well in post-nuclear-apocalyptic America, and you're off on a quest to find your father and rediscover the world outside of Vault 101. With engaging quests, the awesome VATS combat system, and a beautifully desolate world, Fallout® 3 is a must-play for fans of The Elder Scrolls® IV: Oblivion™ and the original Fallout games.
It was the first game to pull me (temporarily) away from my severe Fable® II addiction, but I can't let myself get too hooked. Oblivion fans will know that a Bethesda RPG can provide months of enjoyment, and I'm sure I'll be exploring the Wasteland throughout the holidays. And there are so many awesome new games hitting shelves now.

Come explore the vast post-apocalyptic world of Fallout 3.
Take, for instance, Scene It?® Box Office Smash. It's on the other side of the gaming spectrum from Fallout 3, but while the latter satisfies all our hardcore RPG gaming cravings, Scene It? Box Office Smash is perfect for when you want to get your social gaming on. This four-player trivia game has all the great features of the first game, with tons of HD movie clips, a question system that's smart enough not to repeat itself, and Big Button Controllers to make it accessible even to game-o-phobes. The new version also features Xbox LIVE® play, so you can now take on that smarmy friend on the other coast who claims to know more about movies than you do.
If you've been looking forward to the New Xbox Experience, there's one other cool element of the game. Right now, if you put the game in your Xbox 360® and play it, you can choose between eight different "mascots" for your player character. But on November 19, a title update will enable the use of Xbox LIVE avatars in the game, making this one of the first games to let you bring your new doppelgänger right into the game.

Everyone can enjoy movie trivia in Scene It? Box Office Smash.
Another big social game hit this week: Guitar Hero® World Tour. The covers are gone—the game is packed with master recordings—and you can now play drums or sing vocals in addition to playing guitar and bass. The game's packed with all kinds of other cool new features, including the ability to compose your own songs and share them with other players. Expect lots of great new downloadable songs as well. (I'm still waiting on some "Weird Al" Yankovic classics, though, guys. "Smells like Nirvana," anyone?)

Take your show on the road in Guitar Hero World Tour.
Finally, this week brings a game that ties Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode One for having the longest title in gaming. That's right fans, Gabe and Tycho are back in Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode Two.
The second episode of the popular Penny Arcade series comes to Xbox LIVE Arcade.
