After an exciting day of gaming on Saturday, I met up at my hotel with several local GamerchiX. Four of them were helping out in the Xbox booth at the WCG U.S. Finals: Gypsyfly PMS (Orlando), JaXboxChick77 (Jacksonville), PMS Harlequin (Miami), and emptycagesuzie (all the way from Cleveland, Ohio).
Left to right: Lisa, fasterKitty, emptycagesuzie, Gypsyfly PMS, We were joined at dinner by fasterKitty who lives in Orlando and her friend Lisa.
After dinner we took the water taxi over to Universal CityWalk for the Project Gotham Racing® 4 party at The Groove. It was a great opportunity for the WCG competitors to blow off some steam and for the local Xbox community to come out, meet Major Nelson, and get their hands on Project Gotham Racing 4.
The party was from 8 to 11 p.m., and the game stations were full the whole time. Everyone wanted a chance to play PGR 4 two weeks before it's available in stores. The consensus from players? The best Project Gotham Racing yet!
Major Nelson hosted mini PGR 4 tournaments twice an hour. This round was for the GamerchiX. Maj made some smartass comment about the cars not having cup holders, but JaXboxChick77 shut him right up with a win. Her prize? She'll be sent a copy of the game as soon as it comes out.
Major and I met lots of great community members at the party, and both Gamertag Radio and Squad XP made the trip from Miami to check out the games and get some interviews. Our buddy Geoff Keighley from Game Head came by to compare notes on the upcoming Tokyo Game Show and pose for a picture.
The next day it was back to work … the work of competing for a spot on Team USA. The 'chiX and I watched Ch0mpr, Perfect Legend, and Team Infinity win the gold. Left to right in the photo are Skittles (a two-time PGR 3 National finalist!), Harlequin, Gypsyfly and Suzie.
I had the great honor of presenting the medals for PGR 3. Well, it was a trade-off really. Know who did that fine lettering on the giant prize checks? TriXie did. In exchange I got a Sharpie fume high and medal hanging duty. Here I am bestowing the Silver medal on Brian Boyle (BBoyle) from Lincolnshire, Illinois.
And here's Team USA. I'll be seeing them in Seattle on October 4 for the WCG Grand Finals. As for me, it's off to Japan for the Tokyo Game Show. TriX out. |
