TriXie's Travels: Orlando, Day One

We arrived in Orlando yesterday in the middle of a thunderstorm! The competition won't get started here until Friday, but this afternoon Video Monkey and I took a water taxi from our hotel over to Universal Studios to check things out. Luckily the ride was so short I didn't get seasick.

It is super hot here. Luckily it's not too crowded—most likely because kids are back in school.

Scooby-dooby-doo, I love you! Scoob was cruisin' in the Mystery Machine listening to Jimi Hendrix. Shaggy was nowhere to be seen. He may have been in back of the van 'relaxing'.

The World Cyber Games U.S. National Finals begin tomorrow. The venue is under construction right now, but as you can see the Xbox 360/Games for Windows booth is gonna be super cool. You can play PGR 4, Guitar Hero II, Shadowrun, BioShock, and more. I played Ratatouille for a couple minutes but then …

… I couldn't resist taking this cherry picker for a spin. Luckily Video Monkey caught the evidence before I got yelled at and kicked out. Mark my words, security boys … I shall return.

I went off to sulk and kidnapped BFF Lindsey to go on some rides with me. This scary pharaoh dude (note the creepy blue contacts) crept up behind and scared us. That frosty red drink gave me brain freeze, but it was delicious.

This cracked us up. Here's the polite way to say, "Don't get your fat ass stuck on our ride." Similar to the chart to test your height, this one encourages the metabolically challenged to wedge their flesh into the seat to see if escape will be possible. Mine and Lindsey's butts fit, but we scorched our flesh sitting on the blazing hot plastic!

I was holding my sunglasses on my head so they wouldn't fly off (I've lost or broken three pairs of shades in the last seven weeks). I spent the majority of this ride screaming with my eyes squeezed shut. I believe that Lindsey and Monkey may now be deaf at that frequency. Maybe Random Chick as well. Sorry.

Major Nelson and Geoff Keighley from Spike TV arrive tonight and will co-host the opening ceremony tomorrow at 2:00 P.M. Eastern (with a little help from me).
