The Important Stuff:Gamertag: BeaverClaw | TriXie Interviews BeaverClawHe's a Seattle gamer who loves Guns N' Roses and who won the EA SPORTS Madden Challenge. Say hey to BeaverClaw! TriXie: What's the story behind your gamertag? BeaverClaw: My friend Hunan's name means Badger Claw in the Shoshone language. He and his brother Redwolf introduced me to Xbox 360™ via Battlefield 2: Modern Combat™. Hunan attends Oregon State University (the Beavers). I don't have a child to name after my war buddies, so I figured my gamertag would have to do. TriXie: What do you do for a living? BeaverClaw: I work for two nonprofits. The mission of the Potlatch Fund is to increase philanthropy in NW Native Country. The second is the Chief Seattle Club. They create a sacred space in downtown Seattle for Natives. Basically CSC provides food and support for Seattle's homeless Natives. TriXie: What's the worst or weirdest job you've ever had? BeaverClaw: Commercial fisherman on a purse seiner. My boss tried paying me with cocaine. I've never done hard drugs. TriXie: How long have you been on Xbox LIVE®? BeaverClaw: 9 months. TriXie: Do you have an arch enemy on Xbox LIVE, and if so, who? BeaverClaw: No, there are quite a few poor sports out there, but they just make me laugh. Everyone seems to have their own opinion of what constitutes "fair play". TriXie: Can you recap your Madden Tourney experience? Do you remember highlights from the various games and who you had to beat? BeaverClaw: I played a few games in the qualifying round and went undefeated, but I wasn't sure if I was in the tourney, because the rankings were based on wins minus losses. I didn't know if I had enough games, because 12-6 was a higher rankedrecord than 5-0. I switched from Baltimore to the Patriots when the tourney started because the game demands no turnovers. Tom Brady, Dillon, and Maloney are better ball protectors. As the round of 16 started, online forums became popular with predictions. Everyone seemed to favor BIK_ICEMAN, AMPATHY, or GANJAMATIC to win it all and nobody picked or knew me. I could've lost to BIK_ICEMAN in round 6, but he threw an interception in the end zone near the end of the game. In round 7, AMPATHY lost, then tried to steal the win by posting a wrong score on the Clash site—but photo evidence proved I won. Round 8 was a blowout. In the finals GANJAMATIC led 15-14, I had the ball at my 35 with about a minute left in the half when he disconnected. I finished the game versus the computer and won 38-15. So, that spoiled the championship for both of us. I really just wanted a Madden Championship Jersey like the regional winners received. TriXie: When do you go to Hawaii, and have you been before? BeaverClaw: February 8. It's my first time there. TriXie: What do you think your chances are of winning the grand prize? BeaverClaw: Maybe 1%. We played the online tourney on Xbox 360 and the championships in Hawaii are played on the original Xbox®. I'm two months behind, it's a different game, and a worse controller, IMO. It's frustrating. TriXie: But you'll be in Hawaii! What's your Xbox set-up like? BeaverClaw: I use a HDD projector with digital surround sound and I sit in an EZ Boy Recliner. My screen is about 10 feet wide. I always pop in chewing tobacco at the start of a big match. TriXie: What's the best feature of Xbox LIVE? BeaverClaw: The graphics. They're the shiznit. TriXie: What do you think is the best game of all time? BeaverClaw: Metal Gear Solid. TriXie: What's the funniest thing you've ever heard on Xbox LIVE? BeaverClaw: Xbox 360: $400. Battlefield 2: $60. An enemy driving over your landmine: Priceless. TriXie: What is your greatest Xbox LIVE moment? BeaverClaw: Intercepting BIK_Iceman in the endzone in the quarterfinals. TriXie: Who is your inner rock star? BeaverClaw: Walter Payton doing the Super Bowl Shuffle. TriXie: If they made a movie about your life, who should play you? BeaverClaw: Robert Guthrie (Doo Boy). TriXie: What's your karaoke song? BeaverClaw: "Born to Run" by Bruce Springsteen. TriXie: Rock on. I'm a devout member of the church of Springsteen. If you could trade places with anyone for one day, who would it be? BeaverClaw: Lebron James. TriXie: Hot celeb you'd like to be stranded on a desert island with? BeaverClaw: Hillary Swank; we're from the same small town. TriXie: If you could be any video game character, who would it be? BeaverClaw: Leisure Suit Larry. TriXie: What's the worst food you've ever eaten? BeaverClaw: Escargot. TriXie: Slimy li'l buggers, aren't they? What's the last book you read? BeaverClaw: Symbols by Carl Jung, but Utopia by Sir Thomas Moore and Awareness by Anthony De Mello are my favorites. TriXie: If you could go on tour with any band, which would it be? BeaverClaw: Tegan and Sara, I have a crush on Tegan. TriXie: What do you predict will be the 'next big thing' in gaming? BeaverClaw: Something that merges World of Warcraft and The Sims. TriXie: What do you think is the best thing about Xbox 360? BeaverClaw: HDD. TriXie: What is the Xbox 360 Achievement that was hardest to get? BeaverClaw: Battlefield 2 Live, Mechanic: Repair four Allied Vehicles, you've got to repair an enemy damaged allied vehicle like a Humvee with a teammate in it four times without dying. I couldn't figure it out until some 10-year-old from Australia told me how to do it. TriXie: What would you like to be doing in ten years? BeaverClaw: Working for nonprofits, helping the needy. |
