TriXie Interviews PMS Kitty

You've probably seen her around: She's distinguished herself in the Xbox® community as a PMS division leader, Xbox MVP, and a founder of Xbox GamerchiX. It's high time I put the spotlight on Kitty.

TriXie: Where do you live?

Kitty: In the great white north of Canada! Ok, I kid. I do live in Canada though. Love my Toronto!

TriXie: What do you do besides make yourself useful all over the community?

Kitty: I just recently got promoted to Assistant Manager at the EB Games store I've been at for over a year.

TriXie: Congratulations! What's the worst or weirdest job you've ever had?

Kitty: I worked at a Timothy's Coffee for two months before I just couldn't take it anymore. I hate coffee, and I couldn't stand going home every night smelling like it … Went out the next day and walked into the closest EB Games store and didn't leave the manager alone for a week until he hired me.

TriXie: Hate coffee? I knew you were nuts. How long have you been on Xbox Live®?

Kitty: Since January 21, 2005. Don't ask me why I know the exact date; my mind remembers random numbers. I constantly scare customers and co-workers when I can rattle off prices, trade values, release dates, and what we have in stock.

TriXie: Do you have an arch enemy on Xbox Live?

Kitty: I don't have an actual person, but I guess I could consider anyone who breaks the Terms of Service, or breaks common decency in their treatment of others my arch-enemies. I don't mind high levels of competition, but that doesn't mean you can't show people respect.

TriXie: How many hours a day or week do you spend playing on Xbox Live?

Kitty: I normally play several hours a night. I like to come home after a day at the store and pop in Ninety-Nine Nights™ or Halo® 2 and work out my frustrations on the numerous enemies.

TriXie: Can you tell us about your position as an Xbox MVP?

Kitty: As an Xbox MVP I help moderate our forums, whipping the Trolls back into shape … again I kid. We do spend a lot of time in there though, sorting through and doing our best to help out. We're generally seen as sources of information about all things Xbox and Xbox Live both online and on other sites, and I also take that one step further, and use the information (that I'm allowed to!) in my day-to-day job at EB. There are other things of course, but these are the main ones.

TriXie: What is your role in Xbox GamerchiX?

Kitty: Why, I'm Tough Chix! Ok, that doesn't really tell you very much, does it? I am one of the three "Head Chix", who one day decided gamers of the female persuasion on Xbox Live (we exist!) needed a place to hang out on the Xbox forums and feel free to talk, with no fear of ridicule from any other members of the Xbox forums—male OR female.

TriXie: What's the hardest thing about being a female gamer on Xbox Live?

Kitty: It's been said before, but unfortunately, it still rings true. The hardest thing is listening to a load of crud come out of someone's mouth because they find out you're female. In Halo 2, I rarely use anything that looks feminine, unless I'm just playing silly unranked stuff—primarily because pink is just a little bright and noticeable … But there are more people showing up who are showing positive reactions to the discovery, which is a huge change from even last year at this time.

TriXie: Are there any advantages?

Kitty: I wouldn't say that there are that many advantages, but I do think that there are women out there who are willing to manipulate people to their advantage, to whatever end—for attention, for help, etc. I would say my advantages are that I can have a good time with friends who live all over the world, and exercise some of that frustration from work I was talking about earlier.

TriXie: What's your Xbox set-up like?

Kitty: I just recently upgraded from a 25 year-old, 20 inch TV (it had the fake wood grain on it) to a 4 year-old, 27 inch TV. I no longer have a fuzzy blob for a sniper target in Halo 2! Apparently 21 years and 7 inches make a big difference. I actually don't like big TVs, as I end up not knowing where to look …

TriXie: What's the best feature of Xbox Live?

Kitty: I like the 'presence' features—the stuff that allows you to see what your friends are doing/playing. That way, I can make a good guess if I can bug them into coming online and playing with me at all hours of the night! I use Xbox.com a lot for that, because my laptop is always beside me in case someone IM's me … or in case I need to distract someone so I can headshot them in Halo 2, or play a nasty card in UNO®. It also has the unfortunate side effect of allowing my 360 to yell at me in its blog when I haven't been online in a few days …

TriXie: What feature would you like to see on Xbox Live?

Kitty: You want my list? No, I'm actually really looking forwards to seeing what happens with Live Anywhere. The idea of being able to be connected, even when I'm away from my console, really attracts me.

TriXie: What do you think is the best game of all time?

Kitty: Oooo, this is a tough one. I don't think I can choose just one. Halo 2, because of the matchmaking. Animal Crossing because of the addiction factor … Tomb Raider and Zelda for their amazing storylines and puzzles. I actually hate it when people come up to me in the store and ask me to compare a sports title with an FPS title and tell them which one is better … it's all subjective and it really does depend what you want to play.

TriXie: What future Xbox 360™ games are you excited about?

Kitty: This year, Gears of War® and Viva Piñata™. Next year? Halo 3, no contest.

TriXie: What's the funniest thing you've ever heard on Xbox Live?

Kitty: "Hey e! How'd you get your tag so gansta?" I don't think he's ever going to live that down … Mostly because I'm not going to let him

TriXie: Yeah e is such a gangsta … What's your favorite TV show that's no longer running?

Kitty: Farscape. I was sooooo mad when that got cancelled.

TriXie: Who is your inner rock star?

Kitty: Definitely Pink. I love her kickass style and her 'I should care why?' attitude. I also like how her music has progressed from her first album to her newest. Favorite song off the new one is "Dear Mr. President."

TriXie: What's your karaoke song?

Kitty: Ooooh no. I hate karaoke. I am in no way amused by drunken people warbling off key about some dog they just ran over … Everyone keeps telling me we're doing drunken Karaoke next year at PAX. However, since I'm 'social coordinator', I'm pretty sure I'm going to be leaving that OFF the agenda...

TriXie: But DUDE you totally need to hear me do "These Boots are Made for Walkin." What super power would you like to have?

Kitty: The ability to mute people who are asking the same thing over and over again at work. New release days are really bad for that

TriXie: What's the worst food you've ever eaten?

Kitty: Lobster. Tastes like wood pulp to me. Yes, I do know what wood pulp tastes like—no, I won't be sharing that story.

TriXie: I don't eat lobster because they're the cockroach of the sea. What's a book you wish you'd written?

Kitty: The Black Jewels trilogy by Anne Bishop. Fed my craving for fantasy.

TriXie: What do you think is the best thing about the Xbox 360?

Kitty: The ability to talk to someone in a totally different game. While I might wish that you could have more than one person in a chat room at once, I use this all the time! That and being wireless. So ready for the wireless headset though. I'm tired of ripping my head off every time I go to get up, because I forget my headset is plugged into my controller

TriXie: What Xbox 360 achievement are you most proud of?

Kitty: Definitely getting the Water Temple completion in Kameo® not once, not twice but THREE times. Deep Blue and I simply do NOT like each other

TriXie: What would you like to be doing in ten years?

Kitty: Your job!

TriXie: Hey! Back off!

Kitty: At least "TriXie's Minion" … Seriously though, I hope I'll still be contributing to the Xbox community in some way.
