Castor Troy!
02/12/03
Today we're shining the white-hot light of fame on Castor Troy, a business student in San Diego, California who makes a weekly appearance on the MechAssault leaderboard. He spent a few weeks hovering around #3, and then last week got knocked down to #20. Probably midterms…
TriXie: "Castor Troy" sounds familiar. Who is that?
Castor Troy: One of my favorite movies is Face/Off with Nicolas Cage and John Travolta, two of my favorite actors. In the movie Nicolas Cage plays Castor Troy, who is the villain of the movie.
TriXie: What would you love to accomplish on XboxLive?
Castor Troy: I like to win, so whatever game I play I would like to beat the people who are ranked higher than me. I would love to end up in the top three spots after any game.
TriXie: How much time do you spend playing on Xbox Live?
Castor Troy: About 1-2 hours a day.
TriXie: Really? Some people play 20 hours a week and don't make it onto the leaderboards. How do you kick so much butt in so little time?
Castor Troy: I have been playing video games since I was about six, so usually games are not very hard for me to beat. I've had my years of practice so it all helps. The games I used to play for the original Nintendo system were WAY harder than almost anything that comes out now.
TriXie: What's the funniest thing you've ever heard on Xbox Live?
Castor Troy: This was kinda mean but everyone was laughing. I'm in a MotoGP room and we just got back from a race. Some people are talking about what we should do next, then some guy (I don't know if this was a voice mask or what) said, "You know what guys, let's just do a destruction derby and race backwards" in a really high-pitched voice. Then after he said that some other guy is like, "Shut uuuup." And EVERYONE in the room starts laughing. I was laughing for the first two laps!
TriXie: What feature would you like to see on Xbox Live?
Castor Troy: On the game side of Xbox Live, I would love to see more lobbies like that in MotoGP. I like to be able to tell who is speaking, how many are in the game, what the teams are, and any other information important to the game in the lobby room. Also in games I think it's helpful to have the person's name come up if they are speaking. In MotoGP the names come up in the corner of the screen and it is not distracting at all.
TriXie: What offline Xbox game would you love to be able to play online?
Castor Troy: Timesplitters 2 or the original Halo. Both would be nice.
TriXie: Go have any tips or strategies for us who live in awe of your skills?
Castor Troy: Practice makes perfect.
TriXie: Come on. You're not giving up anything?
Castor Troy: It helps to know the strong points of each game. Another thing is to learn from those better than you. I usually find out how to win by watching people better than me play. I noticed in MotoGP everyone who has a top score has a custom bike, so to compete I had to go buy the game and make a custom bike.
TriXie: Okay, great. Now for the Lightning Round. Best game of all time?
Castor Troy: The original Command and Conquer.
TriXie: Best film?
Castor Troy: I'd have to say it's a tie between The Matrix and Dumb and Dumber.
TriXie: What is a TV show that you never miss?
Castor Troy: The Simpsons.
TriXie: If they made a movie about your life, who should play you?
Castor Troy: Nicolas Cage.
TriXie: Of course. Do you have a theme song?
Castor Troy: Metallica – King Nothing.
TriXie: What super power would you like to have?
Castor Troy: I would like to be able to turn invisible and reappear whenever I feel like it.
TriXie: What would you do while invisible? Rob banks? Peek in windows?
Castor Troy: If I was invisible I would sneak onto the side of the stage during concerts.
TriXie: If you could trade places with anyone for one day, who would it be?
Castor Troy: I would trade places with Metallica's bass player before they go into concert.
TriXie: I see. Then you wouldn't need to be invisible to sneak on stage. One more question, and it's an important one: What cartoon character are you most like?
Castor Troy: I say "excellent," so maybe Mr. Burns from The Simpsons.
So there you have it. Words of wisdom from the Metallica-listening, Simpsons-watching, leaderboard, uh, leading biz boy, Castor Troy. Look for him online. He's got room on his Friends list for you—if you think you've got what it takes...
