Peter Jackson's King Kong The Official Game Of The Movie (now there's a mouthful for you—I'm exhausted just typing the title) pulls no punches when it comes to the merciless danger waiting for Jack Driscoll and friends on Skull Island.

Put that gun away.
With no HUD, the immersion factor is at an all time high, and with survival, not domination (unless you're Kong) on the agenda, this game is already hardcore in its story and presentation. Though you could argue that hardcore play elements are already in place (e.g. no reticule for shooting), there are still many opportunities to take the game to the next hardcore level. To wit:
Spears or Death
No doubt you'll be using plenty anyway, but when you're wading through mortal danger with every step on Skull Island, you can add that extra dab of desperation by foregoing modern convenience. Namely, leave the guns behind and prove your worth with a sharp-edged bone or wooden spear in hand. Satisfaction from a gunned down raptor is fleeting, but spear-chucking the terrifying dino offers a glow that does not easily die.
Independent Soldier
Many are the times your skin can be saved with a plea to Carl, Anne, or another of the survivors. With a frantic selection in the midst of battle, you can beg for a gun or spear they're carrying. Now, my thoughts on firearms have already been covered, but equally important is your own independence. What sort of hero would you be to deny your companions their own means of defense?

Kinda cute ... until it chomps you.
Kong the Tame
His power and ferocity are legendary. He is king of the jungle and feared by all its inhabitants, so I say his natural ability should be more than enough to thwart any threat. While chest thumping with the Y button to enter fury mode may be tempting, you must ask yourself, how much more power do you need? Is Kong not capable enough in his natural state? Beating down two V-Rexes at once may be impressive, but do so without breaking a sweat (no fury mode), and you have my full compliments.
V-Rexes in the Open
Poor Jack Driscoll, all he wanted was to see his script come alive, and now he's running for his life through jungle unknown, saving his own skin while trying to rescue Anne. To this end, he must protect those around him, and often this means distracting and annoying raging V-Rexes so his allies can open a path to the next area.

Yep, you got cavities buddy.
A well place spear in the face of a V-Rex gets their dander up, but if you want to show some real skill, hold your ground out in the open instead of diving behind rock formations to save your fragile hide. Duck, dodge, and avoid in open spaces for that extra challenge.
Don't Kill with Fire
I didn't say don't use fire; after all, you can't progress through the game without it. That said, many battles can be avoided or made easier by lighting aflame a swath of brambles or dry grass to burn the lurking enemies within. This tactic reeks of the non-confrontational mindset though, and whatever the hardcore gamer may be, they are not shy of action. Take the fight to the critters!
