NEW YORK—The United States' top gamers will converge on New York City June 2 and 3, 2007 to participate in the World Cyber Games U.S. Open videogame tournament. The two-day double-elimination competition kicks off the American leg of the WCG USA 2007 Championship series, which culminates with the WCG 2007 Grand Final this October in Seattle, Washington. Top game players will compete for more than $20,000 in cash and prizes, and an automatic berth in September's WGC USA National Championship.

An all-star lineup of elite e-sports competitors will be on hand including defending WCG 2006 gold medalist Wesley "Chomper" Cwilko, Sean "Max1mus" Heffelfinger (both racing in Project Gotham Racing® 3), Emannuel "Master" Rodriguez (Dead or Alive® 4), Team MoB Hot n Mild (Gears of War®), Isidro "Novusnaim" Sifuentes (PC version of FIFA Soccer 07), Team Pandemic (Half-Life: Counter-Strike), Ralph "Red_ScorpiO" Geunhwa (StarCraft: Brood War), Oscar "Teknoboy" Riviera (WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne), and more.

Winners of certain games will also receive roundtrip airfare and hotel accommodations to Cancun, Mexico to compete in the WCG Pan-American Championships. The Pan-American Championships, held June 22 through June 24, are composed of professional gamers from ten different countries in North and South America playing eight of the WCG official gaming titles.

Street thrashers can also compete in Tony Hawk's Project 8.

Michael Arzt, general manager and senior vice president of ICM, the global organizers of the WCG, enthused, "The World Cyber Games U.S. Open offers excitement for the whole family, where attendees will have the opportunity to see top-notch competitive e-sports action … The most exciting part is that the WCG U.S. Open is not just for the pros. In the true spirit of an 'open,' people can come off the street and compete in one of the most popular console games on the planet: Tony Hawk's Project 8™!" An automatic berth in the WCG USA National Final will also be awarded to the open winner in Project 8.

With well over one million players from more than 70 countries, the World Cyber Games is the gaming world's premier tournament. Featuring online and offline events held throughout the world, the year-long series attracted more than 1.3 million competitors worldwide in 2006. This year's WCG 2007 Grand Final will be held in Seattle, Washington. Registration is still open for the WCG, so get involved today!
