TriXie's Travels: Singapore, Day Four

On Saturday we decided to take a cab to the main shopping area here in Singapore. Shopping is a national pastime here and they take it very seriously. Except for the tropical trees and some minor differences, it felt like shopping in any big city. Wicked hot, too.

I think the rest of the group got a little ticked at me when I disappeared into a Borders for waaay too long. I bought a book of Haruki Murakami short stories and the new Jeffery Deaver—already in paperback here!

7-11 again. I got a Coca-Cola flavored Slurpee and did not for one second consider availing myself of the mashed potato dispenser.

Outside one of the many malls (there are 150 malls in Singapore!), they were having a sort of Indonesia fest with dancers, food, and other cool stuff.

This Indonesian god appeared unusually cranky. Thinking it might be the heat, I offered him a sip of my Slurpee.

Many interesting things are for sale. I'm not sure what a "Pioneering Whoop" is, but I guess Singaporeans think it's very Californian.

Lindsey and I wanted to do some power shopping but the boys weren't into it. Video Monkey said he was bored out of his mind. We headed back to Suntec Mall where Lindsey and I sent the boys off to get a drink while we had pedicures at Dashing Diva.

Back at the convention hall we found we'd just missed the climax of CosCon 2007. The hall was packed with cosplay kids, spectators getting their pics taken with anime and manga characters, and members of the Singapore military. Military service is compulsory for men in Singapore.

I was hoping these SWAT team cosplayers would clash with the real soldiers, but no such luck.

We went to dinner at Equinox, which is located at the top of Swisshotel, the tallest hotel in the world. There was a spectacular view from the seventieth floor!

Hooperkid was wearing sandals, which violated the Equinox dress code, so they made him buy black socks. Personally I find socks with sandals about a thousand times more offensive than a glimpse of toes, but when in Rome …

After drinks at the bar, we moved to the restaurant for dinner. The food was kinda 'meh', but you can't beat this view of Singapore at night! Tomorrow Master Chief will visit WCG to recruit believers to finish the fight!
TriX out.
