TriXie's Travels: Tokyo, Day Four

Published September 22, 2007

Today was the last day at TGS for me and Video Monkey. Well, last official day. I may sneak over tomorrow to do a little nerd shopping before heading to the airport.

cosplayers

Today the show was open to the public, and the cosplayers stampeded into Makuhari Messe to show off their most fabulously weird game and anime costumes.

katamari

The Prince from the Katamari games was my favorite. I like to see the lil' fella get out from under the thumb of King of the Cosmos once in a while. I am freaking counting the days until Beautiful Katamari™ comes to my Xbox 360™.

Monkey sushi

After the show, Video Monkey and I found a little sushi joint for dinner.

more sushi

We figured it would be good because we were the only non-Japanese there. It totally lived up to our expectations.

Train map

We cut through the train station on the way back to the hotel, and I was reminded of my hellacious journey from Shinjuku on Thursday. I didn't have my camera handy then, but I wanted you to see what I was dealing with. You check out the big maps above and then purchase your ticket from one of these machines. Finding the button to switch to English is beyond my powers. Ugh … I'm gonna take the bus to the airport tomorrow.

coach bag

But first a little power shopping was in order. Pity poor Video Monkey who had to wait for me outside the Coach store while I picked up this little honey. Peep the kickass red telephone keyfob. Sold separately.

my messy room

Just look what I've done to my hotel room in only three days. Bad TriXie! See if you can spot my new Xbox LIVE® orange Chuck Taylors on the awful psychedelic vomit carpet!

TGS editorial desk

This is where all the stuff you've been reading was written. Try not to notice that the laptop is open to Facebook. Note that I finally found a vending machine with No Calorie Coca-Cola (150 yen), plus the pink Zune and empty potato chip bag. It's writer fuel! I've been on the road for two weeks, and TGS was loads of fun, but I'm looking forward to getting home just in time for the launch of you-know-what! Stay classy, San Diego.

TriX out.
